[1994-07-12-ECW-TV] The Sandman vs Mikey Whipwreck
Did not like this at all. Sandman is sloppy and to me instead of making Mikey into a lovable underdog, he is made into someone that is always in the right place at the right time. I have always liked underdog angles better where the person is in over their head, but still is able to overcome the odds. The Cairo/Sandman feud continues to not have my interest whatsoever.

[1994-07-16-WWF-Superstars] King's Court: Ted DiBiase
No casual attire at Dibiase headquarters. I actually liked Dibiases lingo about how the Luger deal was as good as done. THe main problem I have with this whole thing is that Dibiase seems too much like mustache twirling heel without any rhyme or reason why he is acquriing these guys besides proving that everybody had a price for the million dollar man.

[1994-07-11-WWF-Raw] Bret Hart vs 1-2-3 Kid
Bret really does face vs. face matchups well and this was no exception. It is a shame that the crowd didn't bite on any of Kid's nearfalls because they were paced exceptionally well and everything else about this match is a classic. Clear advantages for both guys were mapped out and they exceeded when sticking to those and failed when deviating. Another great TV match and really feels like one of Bret’s signature title defenses for what is his longest run with the belt.

[1994-07-09-WWF-Nassau Coliseum, NY] Bret Hart vs Owen Hart (60-Minute Iron Man)
Good match that bordered on great at some instances and meandered in other. I enjoyed the limb work in this match but I wish more fire was shown. I will reserve my judgement of the SUmmerslam match until I watch but I am worried at the more cartoonish angle Owen is going in this feud. They should have spaced in a couple of more falls in the first 30 minutes and I think this would have flowed a lot better. Something I am glad I have seen but don't know if I will ever need to see again.

[1994-07-09-SMW-TV] The Thrillseekers and Jim Cornette
Thrillseekers were not ready for this big push and Jericho looks naked sitting at the table. Cornette does his damnedest to get me invested and cuts another inspired promo.

This was ok and I liked Rich's promo. Not as high on Dream Machine here.

[1994-07-09-NJPW-Summer Struggle] Riki Choshu & Tatsumi Fujinami & Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs Shinya Hashimoto & Keiji Muto & Hiroshi Hase
Really fun six man tag. Hase showed real good fire here going toe to toe with Fujiwara. Triple submission was a neat moment.

[1994-07-08-NJPW-Summer Struggle] Jushin Liger vs Great Sasuke
This was my favorite junior match of the year. They immediately show that his will be different from the J Cup match with Sasuke jumping Liger and killing him for the first portion of the match. The mat work mixed in with Liger flashes of comebacks getting grounded by another gorgeous flying spot by Sasuke was clever. The ending built well and we didn't have a ton of useless nearfalls and it ended in an appropriate big move. Great match.

[1994-07-06-USWA-Mid-South Coliseum] Jerry Lawler vs Bam Bam Bigelow
Pretty fun match but I was expecting a little more with such a long arena clip. I have always hated Maclin's commentary and this is no exception.

[1994-06-25-WCW-Saturday Night] Contract Signing: Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan
I do always love Flair in these business settings because he acts like the most cockiest prick you have ever dealt with in doing these. This did a good job making the match seem very important. While watching this I guess I realized that this match felt like the biggest built match of the year for the big two even more so than Owen/Bret and Taker/Taker.

[1994-06-25-WCW-Pro] Steven Regal vs Larry Zbyszko
More intensity and good brawling was shown here than in either of the previous ECW matches. Larry and Regal both showed great fire and this is my second favorite match between them. Perfect finish too for Larry to be standing tall but not having the title. God will I miss this feud. Since this is the last match from Regal on this yearbook, I wanted to talk a little about him. If I were doing a stock going up type column for the year he would firmly be in the going up portion. I had preconceptions of his WCW that it featured numerous time limit draws with decent action but a lot of rest holds. In addition to his yearbook matches, i watched a few matches from him on youtube (vs. Pillman at SS, vs. Badd at BATB) and this could not be further from the truth. Those were merely good matches but in his three showcase performances of the year ( vs. Arn at Superbrawl, vs. Flair Queensbury, and Larry feud) he delivered in all three tremendously and felt like a top guy. There is a good bit of revisionist history going on about how WCW really mistreated Austin at this time and he should have been a top star. From what we have seen so far, I would rather Regal had gotten those shots as I think a feud with him vs. Hogan, Sting, and Vader in the next two years would have been tremendous. He had a great year and really bolstered his case in my eyes as a great all time worker.
