[1994-05-22-WCW-Slamboree] Ric Flair vs Barry Windham
I thought the finishing run was well done. The flying body press didn’t look great but neither did the Flair/Vader finish from Starrcade and that doesn’t hinder my enjoyment of that match. Barry looked like he could still go ok but you do wish he would have been in better shape and not had the knee problems.

[1994-05-22-WCW-Slamboree] Dustin Rhodes vs Bunkhouse Buck (Bullrope)
Just a little bit behind the Stampede match but still great. I was amazed at how effective they made the bullrope with Buck doing smart spots like tying Dusting up and they made the cowbell crucial to controlling the match and limited the shots with it. I also liked the patience on not doing the blade job until the post match even with the fans yelling for it. Thought Bobby was pretty bad on commentary here and it has been the lowpoint of his commentary from what we have seen from him in WCW at this point. Funk’s run in was nice but they botched the spike piledriver pretty badly.

[1994-05-22-WCW-Slamboree] Legends ceremony
I thought this was really well done and short of having each guy speak, felt like the perfect amount of time. Another thing I appreciated was how valued the world title was because when Gordon announced that Race lost the belt the last time in 1983, the fans starting whooooing before he said Flair’s name. Really good class of inductees.

[1994-05-22-WCW-Slamboree] Steven Regal vs Larry Zbyszko
Quite the whose who in the crowd as we have both Vladimir and Hat Guy there. The crowd during this match was dreadful and really deferred from the match. To me this is the contrast to Steamboat/Flair from Spring Stampede crowd wise. Neither crowd was hot for the matwork, but the crowd here clearly looked uninterested and tried to get over chants and what not. It is a shame because the work is really good her and I love what I am seeing from Regal. Larry outsmarting him in the beginning, but they made Regal still look strong with a lot of vicious uppercuts and forearms. Finish was a bit abrupt but well executed.

[1994-05-22-WCW-Slamboree] Terry Funk vs Tully Blanchard
Good match but a lot shorter than I thought. I also like Gordon on commentary here and he was still did a decent job. Funk has to stop trying the piledriver from the ropes to the chair spot as it never works. I thought WCW presented Funk better here than anything we have seen in ECW so far this year besides the post match of the Night the Line was Crossed.

[1994-05-21-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Ric Flair
They really put the Slamboree match on the backburner as it was the third point of emphasis Flair brought up. In retrospect, I think this is Saturday Night I would have started the Hogan segments on and then the next week after Slamboree, Flair could have really started the turn and went after Hogan.

[1994-05-21-SMW-TV] Tracy Smothers, Bruiser Bedlam and Jim Cornette
Cornette is trying really hard to build up Bedlam, but it just is not working that great. He gets in some good lines about Smothers, Smothers got some great color and I also loved bloody, fired up babyface promos when executed well. Tracy does a great job here and really looks and act like a star for the promotion.

[1994-05-21-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler vs Eddie Gilbert
Decent segment but reiterates what I wrote about the video. We just saw Gilbert do some of the most heinous things to Lawler in wrestling history, and then are supposed to be up in arms that someone threw powder in his face. I also hate that spot where Lawler’s arms were flailing around but he couldn’t get a shoulder up on the pin.

[1994-05-21-USWA-TV] Music Video: Eddie Gilbert
LIked this video although it seemed like a weird live version of the song that they used. Good history of Lawler/Gilbert but in a way it shows that they have been together too many times and have nothing left to explore. When a 2 minute video shows multiple fireballs and you running over someone with a car, there is nothing more you can do.

[1994-05-21-WWF-Superstars] Ted DiBiase vignette
Thought this was pretty cheesy and it seemed out of place in 1994.

[1994-05-21-WWF-Superstars] The Undertaker sighting
The worker here provided some good customer service. Running to the back to get something for a customer is unheard of these days.

[1994-05-20-SMW-Volunteer Slam III] Jake Roberts vs Dirty White Boy
Dirty White Boy has been involved in some hot angles and good interviews but most of his big matches have been really disappointing. This was no exception. Jake was fine here but not as good as the tv match and DWB just struggles in transitional moves to make a long match come together. Ending angle was good.

[1994-05-17-ECW-TV] Mikey Whipwreck vs Pit Bull I
For as innovative ECW was with some concepts, they could be behind the times also. This was an upset that felt cheap and insanely telegraphed. I was suprised at how crisp in execution Ptibull was as he hit everything well but MIkey winning should have been a satisfying moment, and it just wasn't

[1994-05-15-AAA-Triplemania II-B] Konnan & Perro Aguayo & Cien Caras vs Jake Robert & Miguel Perez Jr & Love Machine
While the other match failed to live up to my expectations, this exceeded them. The match did get a liittle long in the tooth, but nothing terribly bad, and I thought the rudo team did a great job with the beat down and creating sympathy. Not going to rank high on an overall 1994 list, but I enjoyed this for what it was.

[1994-05-15-AAA-Triplemania II-B] El Hijo del Santo & Jushin Liger & Octagon & Tiger Mask vs Blue Panther & Eddy Guerrero & La Parka & Psicosis
With some of the greatest workers of all time, this match at its worst would be good. Unfortunately, that is where I would rank this and I was disappointed tremendously given the talent level. I thought the exchanges between Parka and Tiger Mask were pretty bad and I just wanted either more intensity or fluid movement for this match. Probably the most disappointing match so far given my expectations going in. I also wonder why Blue Panther teamed with Eddy again since last time we saw them together, he got beat down pretty tremendously.

[1994-05-15-AAA-Triplemania II-B] Mascara Sagrada vs Black Cat
I thought this was great and would provide a great intro into lucha style. The match had a clear dynamic and was worked in a hybrid lucha style but also mixed in more American syle segments into the match. Black Cat had a great performance.

[1994-05-17-ECW-TV] Interview: Public Enemy
Didn't really understand all the cuts with the narrative to this and what was shown was some annoying idiots screaming stuff that most of the time I couldn't understand. Don't know how this built towards the match vs. Funk whatsoever.

[1994-05-17-ECW-TV] Interview: Terry Funk
Terry has been sort of up and down so far with what we have seen on the yearbook. He has had some good to great matches and promos but has also had some stuff (The Night the Line Was Crossed, 5/14 ECW tag where some of his weaknesses are exploited). I didn't think his promo here was as bad as the first Arn/Terry promo where he went off on a weird tangent but this was no great shakes either and could have been more productive in half the time.
