[1994-01-29-SMW-TV] Interview: Jim Cornette / Interview: Dory & Terry Funk / Interview: The Bullet
So much to write about here. Dory's epic hat. Terry repeating butt crack, Tennessee, Cornette doing another great promo (he has been on fire so far this year), and a great Bullet promo talking them into the building. My great grandfather's favorite wrestler was Armstrong and Mr. Wrestling II and this was a great glimpse at his appeal.

[1994-01-29-WWF-Superstars] Jack Tunney announcement
Always like Tunney announcements from the office. Tunney really speaks like the President of a company and does a good job of laying out the possibilities.

[1994-01-27-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXVI] Ric Flair & Sting vs Rick Rude & Vader (Elimination)
The Vader/Flair superplex getting no reaction was a head scratcher. Even if Brodus Clay did that next Monday on Raw I would expect the reaction to be a lot bigger than it was here. Bobby/Tony gelled well for this being their first night. I also thought Rude looked pretty bad in his segment with Sting and Sting looked lost at times. Nice splash for the finish.

[1994-01-24-AJW] Aja Kong vs Yumiko Hotta
What a great card. After two storyline driven matches we get this war. This match has a reputation and lives up to it. I did get squeamish at some of the joint manipulation Aja was doing. Another great match and I loved the call out to Hokuto at the end.

[1994-01-24-AJW] Bull Nakano vs Kyoko Inoue
Started this match last night and enjoyed it but was fading by the end. Gave it another chance today and I was glad I did. This is my #1 match so far. Bull's facial expressions at getting increasingly frustrated where amazing. I liked how in the finish she had to betray her original strategy and take a chance with two leg drops to seal the win. Great effort all around.

[1994-01-24-AJW] Manami Toyota & Toshiyo Yamada vs Etsuko Mita & Mima Shimoda (2/3 falls)
I enjoyed the third fall better than you guys. They definitely meandered after the nearfall and seemed rattled but they built up the actual finish well. I thought Toyota was especially spot on in this match. First fall had nice slow build, Second fall really was fabulous, and third fall had satisfying finish. This match fell just below great status.

[1994-01-22-WWF-Royal Rumble] Undertaker vs Yokozuna (Casket)
I guess Vince agreed with the rest of you guys about crush's commentary since it was edited out here. I was pretty shocked about how competent and stiff some things in this match were. A couple of the chair shots looked brutal. The heel brigade is one of those wacky moments were it is really cool now in retrospect to see who everyone is and what type of career they had. The supernatural stuff is what it is but I loved it as a kid and was not real bothered by it now.

[1994-01-22-WWF-Royal Rumble] Royal Rumble
Tenryu showed some good struggle on his elimination. I wonder what the rationale was for Fatu to be in this spot was. Michaels elimination seemed wasted and unimportant to how big his role was throughout the match. I can't recall how Owen got eliminated but would be interested in knowing. The finish looked ok and was neat but I had forgotten how restrictive they had to be on the replay angles. Fink announcing the winner and then doing a double take almost caused me to spit out my coke. Overall I thought this did a pretty decent job keeping both Luger and Bret strong going into Wrestlemania.

[1994-01-22-WWF-Royal Rumble] Bret & Owen Hart vs The Quebecers
This was worse and shorter than I remembered too. Vince really did have the rotating wheel on commentary during this time as now we have Dibiase in the booth. I think the stoppage could have gotten over more effectively if it had been emphasized that they didn't want to risk Bret not competing in the Royal Rumble. The match overall was good but was overshadowed tremendously by the turn of Owen.

[1994-01-17-WWF-MSG, NY] 1-2-3 Kid & Marty Jannetty vs The Quebecers
This was really good and made me wish they would have had a long tag title match at WM. That would have really solidified the card along with the two classic matches and the feel good moment at the end. The Quebecers are always real good at letting the babyfaces shine in the beginning with their bumping and bail out spots. I thought Kid looked worse and more sloppy here than in any of the other matches but Marty more than made up for it by being a bump freak. Loved how the heat segment originated with the sequence that won Kid and Jannetty the belts. It was also refreshing to see a heel team go over so cleanly in the end. Really good match overall.

[1994-01-22-WCW-Saturday Night] Ric Flair & Sting & The Boss vs Steve Austin & Rick Rude & Ron Simmons
I will agreee that I was perplexed that Simmons was heel here and also was unaware Ice Train was in the picture this early. Real good 6 man that made me look forward to the Boss for the year because between his All Japan run in late 93 and WCW 94 run he may become a sneaky top 5-10 worker in the US candidate.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
I made the mistake of discussing wrestling on a non-wrestling message board and I am constantly amazed how jaded some Attitude era fans are. People will shout till they are blue in the face how much of a bigger star Undertaker and HHH are than John Cena without any facts backing it up except that they used to watch and don't now.

[1994-01-22-SMW-TV] Down and Dirty: Heavenly Bodies
Really loved the angle, Cornette's promo, and Del Ray coming out acting like Stevie Wonder. Only negative wll be Dr. Tom who I thought was annoying and distracting constantly playing with his hair during Cornette's promo. I understand part of that was the gimmick but it was too much to me during this promo.

[1994-01-22-WWF-Superstars] Interview: Bret & Owen Hart
I am really loving this angle and it may be the one that most resonates what has happened in my life. Owen superman babyface promo was awesome with just enough subtle hints at the turn.

[1994-01-22-WWF-Superstars] The Undertaker and Paul Bearer vignette
The visual of the casket rolling away revealing Taker was cool as hell. Good Paul Bearer promo too. You rarely get these types of promos today which really add character and layers and were enhanced by the outdoor vibe.

[1994-01-17-WWF-Raw] The Undertaker and Yokozuna
Kind of saddened to hear Crush getting raked through the coals here, I thought he did a good poor man Bobby Hennan coming up with sort of ridiculous but also sort of valid points about why Yoko is scared and that the Undertaker is strange to be hanging out in a casket. Yoko did a great job of potraying the fear. This angle was a lot better well done so far than would appear on the surface.

[1994-01-15-WWF-Superstars] Update: Owen's not happy!
I don't know what is worse, Shawn's pose on the WWF magazine or Gorillas tie here. The Harts promo is really good and I am loving this build to the turn. Having a brother, I can seem some similarities in that resentment does build over things. The Quebecs and Johnny Polo like to yell a lot.

[1994-01-14-WAR] Genichiro Tenryu vs Shiro Koshinaka
Favorite fancam match so far. One of the problems I have had with Koshinaka over the years is his selling and uninspired mat work at times. This match had neither and he really mixed up the strikes and stiffness well with Tenryu. Tenryu is great as always. Really nice, short match.
