[1999-10-14-WCW-Thunder] Kevin Nash: Color Commentator
Oh man, Nash is at his absolute peak of being overindulgent here. Another sushi joke that he thinks is so hilarious every time. The Rey jersey at $60 seems steep but a better deal than paying any money for the K-Dawg banner A bad Torrie/kidman segment happens The Sid/Goldberg video package with the narrating is awful and buries both guys. The Nitro arena figures were awful and Nash is wondering why hes doing a job in the commercial. Nash states that the Saturday show is about to get woke. Meng video package next and Nash has some smug comments about the coach gimmick coming out. WCW is creeping into June levels of bad around this point from what we are seeing.

[1999-10-11-WWF-Raw] Mark Henry and Sex Therapist
This did not sound like good psychology to me but glad to know Mark is always prepared with some handcuffs.

[1999-10-11-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Scott Hall & Kevin Nash
The July 2012 date is pretty good as Nash does kill Punk's career a year before that. This is more self indulgent bullshit for the Outsiders that doesn't help anything but themselves. As much genuine as Bobby had for the Gorilla tribute, hear the tone of his voice when he announces the Outsiders as the best tag team hes ever seen.

[1999-10-11-NJPW-Final Dome] Shinya Hashimoto vs Naoya Ogawa
I enjoy this feud a lot and this was a great spectacle match for me to set up what we saw in the future. Inoki and Fuji being involved of course is a little too ham fisted but they are seen as authority figures and the crowd is nuclear for all of this. While Ogawa is awkward, he can tee off on Hashimoto and Hash is such a great performer he can build up anyone. This felt like a dome main event. ***3/4

[1999-10-11-NJPW-Final Dome] Shinjiro Otani & Tatsuhito Takaiwa vs Minoru Tanaka & Koji Kanemoto
The press conference was cool. It was nice to see Otani and Kanemoto on opposite ends and they kicked each other's ass all around the ring. Tanaka had a few awkward moments and to me was the clear #4 in here. The stuff with Otani and Kanemoto was splendid and this set a template for the multiple tags that would involve most of these men in 2000. The finish was also great with Takaiwa having to break the armbar to save Otani and then a big pin sequence with Takaiwa hitting some huge powerbombs and Otani ending up getting the win. ****1/4 (8.6)

[1999-10-11-NJPW-Final Dome] Jushin Liger vs Kendo Ka Shin
The charisma is a big factor for Kashin as I continue to contend on average in the history of junior workers he isn't that bad its just that he is pushed to the level of the GOAT in Liger and ultra charismatic and talented dudes in Otani and Kanemoto. I thought the action here was pretty fun and the top rope brainbuster was a brutal way to end it.

[1992-01-21-AJPW-New Year's Giant Series] Jumbo Tsuruta vs Toshiaki Kawada
A simple but beautiful match. Jumbo's face of can you believe this fucking kid at the start is excellent and the match carries a great storyline of Kawada being relentless in going after that leg and Jumbo being such a smart worker and wily that he isn't going to afford him that advantage. This felt like a callback to the Choshu vs Tenryu matches of the 80's with an updated move set. Once Jumbo does get attacked, I did feel like you got a sense that he was in danger while still retaining all of his aura and that he is firmly the ace. I think it was critical to have Kawada be seen as a threat but Misawa was going to eventually be the guy. This is probably the last super great singles match of Jumbo's career. ****1/4 (8.7)

[1992-01-19-WWF-Royal Rumble] Royal Rumble
The easiest 1+ hour match for me to watch and easily the best battle royal I have ever seen. Flair gives the last performance I would put in the pantheon for him and overall it is just an iconic match that really has a big semblance on my childhood and fandom as a whole. ***** (9.8)

[1992-01-19-WWF-Royal Rumble] Roddy Piper vs The Mountie
Always a great moment when Piper wins and the crowd takes a second to realize whats happened and then does a "holy shit he did it pop". The match was exactly what it needed to be and this felt like a great WWF nod to someone that had helped the promotion reach incredible heights with Piper still having a little bit left in the tank to give some compelling performances. **1/2

[1999-10-09-OVW-TV] Flash Flanagan promo
Flanagan does a decent promo but Ric Flair he is not. The points Flash brings up about the DQ is good but then we get into an OVW favorite, referee bashing. It is never interesting especially when it involves someone like Briscoe. Cornette is appalled and outraged of course and this is par the course for OVW.

[1999-10-09-OVW-TV] Music Video: Scotty Sabre & Danica / Sean Casey promo
This was straight out of KAW. Cornette liking Cher bites him in the ass here as the video didn't work at all. Danica gets told to shut up by Casey in a pretty generic and not very good promo. OVW isn't too great in 1999 either and I don't think that is my 2000 bias coming in.

[1992-01-19-Hamada's UWF] Lightning Kid & Jerry Lynn & Dr Wagner Jr vs Dos Caras & Silver King & El Texano
I enjoyed this a good deal although it was carried by the rudos. Them being complete assholes and having to result to mask ripping and other tactics really made you hate them but see how effective they are as a unit.Lynn looked really good to me and I agree with Pete that this is the shakiest Kid looked in a marquee match between 1990-now. ***3/4 (7.5)

[1999-10-09-MPPW-TV] Brian Christopher and Doug Gilbert
I love the audience laughing right as Brian says he was walking his dog. Dave doesn't seem convinced Brian is telling the truth. I liked the beatdown a lot because you knew Christopher was full of shit but he had enough gimmicks to still ambush Gilbert. The beatdown is also a big wrap around of the studio and has a lot of good punches and kicks. Christopher comes out in the main event and is happy to report he has had a miraculous recovery to promote the New Daisy show tonight. Christopher does his dance and out is Gilbert to get a little bit of revenge before Christopher retreats.

[1992-01-19-UWA] Pegasus Kid & Negro Casas vs El Hijo del Santo & Villano III
I liked this a good deal. Four huge names mixing it up with the bonus of Benoit being in there to differentiate. THis made me want to see a big apuestas match between Casas and Villano III more than anything else. I didn't think Benoit looked awful by any means but he is probably the least of the four guys in this match. His rudo mannerisms could have used a little work throughout. ***1/4 (6.7)

[1992-01-18-WCW-Pro] Rick Rude & Steve Austin & Bobby Eaton vs Sting & Ricky Steamboat & Marcus Bagwell
This told a nice singular story of it being all about Rude vs Sting and their interactions but we had a couple of nice moments from others involved mainly Steamboat and Austin. Bagwell as the underling that is plucky but an easy target is a good story for the DA to go up against. Another enjoyable tv match that WCW could and did put out around this time period to fill up a weekend of wrestling viewing. *** (6)

[1992-01-18-USWA-TV] Jeff Jarrett & Robert Fuller vs The Moondogs / Interview: Jeff Jarrett & Jerry Lawler
We are still at the point in the month where the violence is so visceral that I don't mind much of the repetition. The action here starts out and never lets up. I love the usage of weapons around the ringside area and Lawler becoming more and more involved was a good way to implement him in. Great promo by Lawler to cap things off. ***1/4 (6.7)
