[1996-11-25-WWF-Raw] Interview: Shawn Michaels & Jose Lothario
Not a good look for Shawn. I liked King jumping in here with the questions. With the way Shawn is dressed and his demeanor they are going for the "I don't care if you like me or hate me" vibe but it feels wrong on Shawn and the end result is a resounding no in the like him department around this time.

[1993-12-13-WWF-Raw] Jeff Jarrett vignette
This was the best one of these so far IMO as Jeff going through the outfits made him feel important for once and a luminary in Nashville.

[1993-12-10-NJPW-Final Battle] Shinya Hashimoto vs Keiji Muto
I didn't think the opening mat work was particularly engaging but at least it wasn't lazy as everything was locked in tightly. The final stretch with bloody mouth Hash looking to stalk Muto was really well done. I get what they were going for in trying to build up from a ground floor base to a classic but the opening matwork does prevent it from reaching the great match status. ***1/2

[1993-12-11-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Vader
I know the Cleveland stuff was botched and that is unfortunate but it feels like Vader vs Flair has so much juice to it as a feud than Vader vs Cactus and especially Rude vs Flair. This was a short but sweet promo by Vader hyping up Starrcade and I have really enjoyed the build to the match.

[1993-12-11-USWA-TV] Interview: Eddie & Doug Gilbert & Toni Adams
Toni was great here. Really riles up the crowd and she does look good in the I'm Too Sexy video. I don't know if her being with someone scuzzy like DOug is part of the gimmick but he drags the ensemble down IMO. Eddie coming back is getting old but this was one of his better promos of the year in a year of a lot of shaky stuff from him.

[1993-12-11-WWF-Superstars] Interview: Owen Hart
Vince was really good in this role as he asks the right questions and then lets Owen answer and shine. A wonderful promo by Owen and this feud continues to develop very naturally.

[1993-12-10-Michinoku Pro] Super Delphin vs Sato (Mask vs Mask)
Enjoyed this match for what it was and it feels like a significant one in the development of Togo. Him and Delphin will be married to each other for years to come so it was nice to see them have this match to kind of set things off for their lifelong feud. Togo's dives looked great as always. ***1/ 2

PTBN GWWE
The rubric is more of a guidemap when formulating your list. We wanted to have a set criteria to judge the listing by. My personal reasoning for this is because I think without a rubric, Vince could really easily be #1 on a lot of lists. That is all well and good but I don't really forsee this list as a "most important WWE figures" and I do think that is easier to earmark than with GWE. There is not rigid requirement that you have to go through every candidate and mark a number for each one and whatever the numbers tell you, that is your list (like Parv did with BIGLAV). I am unsure with how you will vote on this in relation to something like the WON HOF but I know for someone like Elliot, the workrate factor in the WON HOF carries fairly little weight to him individually as he has Tamura as one of his top five workers of all time but wouldn't vote for him in the HOF. We tried to create a metric where you could do similar weighting. If you do prefer intangibles and longevity, then your list can look vastly different from someone who prefers workrate while still using the same basic guidelines.

[1993-12-10-AJW-Tag League The Best] Manami Toyota & Akira Hokuto vs Kyoko Inoue & Toshiyo Yamada
First match was a great spotfest just right behind the 12/6 tag for me. Kyoko in the black gear and being a maniac is wonderful to see. Her winning felt well earned. It's tough for me to put it into words but it was 20 minutes of really exciting action. **** The second fall piles on a great story to the proceedings involving Hokuto again. Toyota gets beat up for a while and then Hokuto comes in and she is also in a ton of trouble. I really appreciated the transitions that Hokuto used to reverse the tide. In addition, Toyota was really strong in this match execution wise and also bringing some emotion. The final moments with everyone diving around and Toyota on the brink of putting Kyoko away was fantastic. It felt like all Akira had to do was get the hot tag for them to win and she does and that STILL is not enough. Yamada comes back in and they try to isolate Toyota but that doesn't work out. Akira gets tagged in and again it feels like they have the match in hand until they don't. So many ebbs and flows in these final minutes and all of them make sense. Yamada gets rolled up for a 2.9999 count that I thought was the finish. Akira is finally able to put her away as an emphatic end to her amazing year. 1993 joshi is amazing and this is a hell of a way to close things out. ****1/2

[1993-12-06-WWF-Raw] Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon
A fitting end for Bobby in the WWF and really the end of the first phase of me as a fan with Hogan, Heenan, and Okerlund gone from the promotion.

[1993-12-06-WWF-Raw] Shawn Michaels vs 1-2-3 Kid
Good match. Shawn looks in better shape after having a rough 1993 and he is able to match the intensity of Kid here. They bump around good and have a fun athletic contest. It is amusing to come back from a break and see HBK throwing a superkick to not even a nearfall. Razor intervenes and they have a brawl at the entrance with an absurd close up on the toothpick and HBK giving Razor the Razor's Edge. ***

[1993-12-06-AJW] Akira Hokuto vs Shinobu Kandori
This show doesn't let up. I would put the last three matches here above the current years Wrestle Kingdom final 3 output and I would imagine the undercard was better here too. This was excellent with Kandori being a prick throughout the match and always teasing the arm work when need be. Hokuto's performance is beautiful and sad all at the same time and is amplified by the wrestlers on the aisle looking on at her with huge emotion. 1993 was a year of the great match visual and this is one of the best examples of that. ****1/2

[1993-12-06-AJW] Manami Toyota & Toshiyo Yamada vs Mayumi Ozaki & Dynamite Kansai
I feel like I am closer to Pete on this one than everyone else. This wasn't as great as Dream Rush or Dream Slam but those are both *****. This was a straight sprint and ferocious type pace throughout but I also thought it never tettered into too ridiculous territory and the break up pin attempts by the partners helped smooth things over from a logic standpoint. Ozaki was a machine in this match and my favorite of the match. Kansai continues to have her supreme 1993 and bumps big for both Yamada and Toyota. Toyota had some shaky moments like the moonsault and the finish is really funky looking with her revers JOCS, but it felt satisfying seeing Toyota and Yamada win this feud overall. ****1/2

[1993-12-06-AJW] Megumi Kudo vs Aja Kong
Aja having her arm worked over draws me in every time and this was no different. This was a match where starting out the 90's viewing I would have been like "oh cool Aja vs a no name, lets see what she can do". Now, with the great matches I have seen Kudo have, this was another one to add to the mantle. A real simple story of her being outmatched and having to mount a ferocious attack against the arm of Aja to even the odds but really dramatic. I could have done without the ref bump too but I guess political implications are going to happen in inter promotional matches. Aja's backfist attack at the end was brutal. Kudo had earned her respect. ****1/4

[1993-12-05-UWFi] Vader vs Nobuhiko Takada
A big match feel and the controversy over the finish is still entertaining. Knowing how the rest of this feud plays out, I am fine with the dominance I thought Takada exulted once he took over. His leg kicks to gain the advantage really felt like a big tree being chopped down and Vader selling teh arm damage after the finish was a great visual. Takada is confirmed as an ace badass and kudos to Vader doing this type of job as WCW champion. ****1/4

[1993-12-05-UWFi] Gary Albright & Dan Severn vs Salman Hashimikov & Vladimir Berkovich
Watching this after The American's finale is a hell of a 1-2 punch combo. I was happy to see the hate conveyed here even with all the grappling. Even something like Albright using his body weight to lay on someone was done in a hateful manner and to prove dominance. Severn is real spry here and the long hair flying around is surreal. The finish worked in that it was a shocking moment and kept building up the feud for later iterations. ****
