[1996-11-22-RINGS] Volk Han vs Tsuyoshi Kohsaka
Good match but I was hoping for more from two top 100 guys IMO. The Han rib selling and the leg work was the highlights here. I did think Han got his finishing arm submission on a little easy even though like usual that match looked like death and was death in the kayfabe sense when it was fully applied. ***1/4

[1996-11-18-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Roddy Piper
I see both sides in the argument of how this angle was presented. I did think the actual turn was nonchalant and required the viewer to connect some dots but everything felt really frantic and big time with Piper being restrained by the cops and the NWO knowing they got their point across and just retreating from this dangerous animal. The stage is set even more for Hogan vs Piper and this was much better than that awful video from the week before.

[1996-11-18-WCW-Nitro] Hollywood Hogan and Eric Bischoff / DDP and the NWO
Hogan rushes the booth as Heenan scrams. Hogan demands Bischoff say he is a bigger star than Piper and they bury Roddy. DDP does another good interview and they keep the intrigue up for him vs the Outsiders. A lot of moving parts on Nitro right now but most everything is still landing extremely well and building intrigue. I watched this episode on the network and it also included fun Eddy vs Benoit and Parka vs Juvy matches.

[1996-11-18-WCW-Nitro] The Outsiders and Faces of Fear
An awesome start to the show with a cold open and the Outsiders laying waste to the tag teams. They then go outside and bully Tony and it is legit uncomfortable and Nash especially is really hate-able. I really appreciated after they scurry away how upset and triggered Tony was over the whole ordeal that he ends up stomping off from commentary. It was also good that Nash called out him laughing last week.

[1996-11-18-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin vs Mankind
Fun match as Austin continues to step into his role and I think Mankind was a good partner for him. We saw chemistry here that would carry over 18 months later. The back and forth nature of the match had a chaotic feel that helped. The finish was predictable with Executioner, Bearer and Taker getting involved but Raw seems to have much more juice in its programming now than even six months ago. ***1/4

[1996-11-17-WWF-Survivor Series] Shawn Michaels vs Sid
This was a great match and the only time SID reached his true potential. A lot of that can be attributed to Shawn who does work here to put him over huge even though he was getting boo'd out of the building. For a selfish worker at times, this is one of his most selfless performances. I thought they did good in the time of this match in making it feel like a main even match that was stretched out but not too long. Sid using the camera was a good enough way to give Shawn an out for trying to check on Jose and the powerbomb pop at the end is one of my favorite match ending pops in wrestling history. For one night, SID reigned supreme and was the ruler of the world. ****

[1996-11-17-WWF-Survivor Series] Bret Hart vs Steve Austin
Watched this twice in the past twelve hours and it is a classic match. Austin has a bit of a ground swell and just oozes confidence coming out. The opening matwork was really well done and they worked hard to get Bret over as the face. I appreciated the way that Bret was the more technician throughout the match and Austin was the heel with more punches and kicks. The table spot is well done and adds to the attack by Austin. I thought JR was spectacular on commentary and Vince tried his best even though he sprinkled in some 90's cheese. The finish works well in helping Bret win but putting over Austin huge. This was a big stage from him as even though he was getting cheers at Buried Alive, this type of marquee match is a far cry from opening vs. HHH. Austin delivered in spades and a star was on the rise. ****3/4

PTBN GWWE
Not really. PTBN's main hub of activity is through facebook groups and live chats and we felt that moving it to a message board or other platform would dilute participation.

[1993-11-24-WWF-Survivor Series] Rock & Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies
There has been a constant talk on PWO whether a crowd to be wrong, this is exhibit A for me. A maddening crowd that doesn't give a shit about some great action that is happening in the ring. I agree to the narrative that generally good matches doesn't equal hot periods for wrestling but sheesh, show some respect man. I was happy to see the Bodies win as it gave a historic ending to the match. All four deserved better. ****

[1993-11-24-WWF-Survivor Series] Interview: Shawn Michaels / Interview: Hart Brothers
Much better promo by Shawn here than the stuff we saw at the Hart house. Stu switching jackets to the home team was sly. The Hart Family promo was fun and got over the family feud narrative of the match heading in. I did like how Bret essentially just shifted his threats for Lawler to Shawn.

[1993-11-24-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue vs Stan Hansen & Giant Baba
Another really good match that didn't have near the execution of the previous match but had Baba smiling from ear to ear throughout most of it and that old man smiling with getting his face kicked in couldn't help but bring a big smile to my face. This also starts the Kawada leg issues as they really work it over and he needs the magic spray on the outside. The tease for the draw was really well done. I thought Taue in this match was a little clunky working with Baba but again what this lacks in execution is made up for in heart. ***3/4

[1993-11-24-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Mitsuharu Misawa & Kenta Kobashi vs Steve Williams & Big Bossman
Really good match with Bossman working like a mad man against both Misawa and Kobashi and doing some fun stuff like using his night stick. Misawa and Doc squaring off is always entertaining at this point and Misawa in particular looks spry for this series. I had a blast watching this match at 1:00 AM. ***3/4

[1993-11-22-WWF-Raw] Shawn Michaels vignette
I know they didn't have much leadtime but Reo was brutal and this whole segment failed horribly besides the slight tease at the impending Owen vs Bret feud.

[1993-11-21-CMLL] El Dandy vs Emilio Charles Jr (Hair vs Hair)
I guess I am the high man here because I loved this. I wonder if Arena Mexico had a blood ban at this time. The post shots were brutal and holy shit did Dandy go full speed into that post in the third fall. The punches and ebb and flow were very believable and the finish is one of my favorite in lucha apuestas history with a very logical foul from the Dandina and then a cool roll up. Rudos winning wager matches against an established name like Dandy are fairly rare from my experience so I loved seeing it play out like this. Dandy takes a hell of a hair cut too. This was some blood away from a MOTYC for me but I still thought it was really great stuff. ****1/4

[1993-11-20-WCW-Battlebowl] Battlebowl match
For a completly forgettable PPV, this was an awesome ending stretch. Flair and Vader keep going at it with Race getting some shots in on the stretcher. Then you get Sting vs Vader and Austin and that was excellent with him sticking and moving and hitting some stiff shots. The elimination using the ramp was clever. Vader vs Sting is always compelling and while the finish here was predictable it was executed predictably well. Jesse is happy as shit with Vader shouting on commentary as the show signs off the air. Really strong looking battle royal based on this finish.

[1993-11-20-SMW-TV] Heavenly Bodies vs Bruise Brothers
Decent enough action but the Bruise brothers are so sloppy and not in a good reckless way like the Moondogs. I agree that the hog-tie spot sounded probably great on paper but was pretty clumsy in execution. The board shot to Jimmy Del Ray was brutal. I am kind of ready for this feud to be over.

[1993-11-18-JWP-Thunder Queen Battle] Devil Masami & Plum Mariko vs Chigusa Nagayo & Cutie Suzuki
I have been on a big Devil vs Chigusa kick the past week or so and this match lived up as an entry into that great feud. This really centered around them but used Cutie and Mariko as flies in the ointment of the respective big guns and having them break up double team moves and pin attempts. The sleeper stuff in the finish was interesting and compelling to me and led to a great climax at the finish. Can be sort of cliche, but another great 1993 joshi match. ****

[1993-11-13-WCW-Saturday Night] Vader & Steve Austin vs Ric Flair & Arn Anderson
A really tough match to rank. Some really excellent stuff but like everyone else has said, this went probably ten minutes too long and really petered out in the end. Then you have that frantic sign off and non finish that just forces the viewer to wonder why they invested all of the time into the match only to get that. I did like Arn coming out to help his best friend and interject into the feud with Vader which has some juice right now for Flair. ***1/2
