This. The amount of hypocrisy and overreaction about everything AEW has always been completely ridiculous. I'm out of the loop, so I was not even aware that there was some "Twitter outrage" about Hook getting a title shot. Which is, indeed, completely ridiculous and even more in the wake of Jinder fucking Mahal getting in the title picture from outta nowhere (apart from getting owned by the Rock last week in an "angle" reeking of 30 years ago when "fuck yeah 'murica" was in vogue. Wait... MAGA this MAGA that, ok, maybe not that passé after all). But anywoo. I have my (large) shares of criticism for Coach TK, but him staying a DVDVR shitposter at heart certainly ain't one of them. And the fake concern for the business aspect of it from people who never ever cared about AEW anyway is comical at best. Yeah, that's not "responsible", probably. What is responsible is striking big money deals with the Saudis, for instance. Speaking of hypocrisy though, the same people booing Jericho's name on Collision yet popped for Flair early on, jeeez. Maybe that fly attendant should have posted an emoticon under a Dark SIde Tweet or something.

Taichi not getting a main event push with the arc he went through in the last few years, ditching the chickenshit heel to gain the respect of his fellow wrestlers and from the audience and legit becoming a terrific Kawada-like worker, is completely ridiculous, and even moreso when SANADA is put in the spot. The Just 5 guys name is a stroke of ironic genius I guess. Here's telling that SANADA, the guy with the least amount of charisma of maybe the entire roster this side of YOSHI-HASHI, is effectively Just A Guy. Even his fucking music theme sounds generic. And why hasn't anyone told TAKA that "You Already Die" doesn't actually mean anything and sounds dumb as fuck ? I know this is the country that gave us the awesome franponais, but when you try to sell your product to an English speaking language too, maybe don't do stupid sounding shit like this.

And now Kamille, of NWA "fame", is expected to join. Ya know, Jade Cargill has not even debuted yet and there's gonna be a brand new toy with more experience (although I never was overly impressed by her in-ring stuff, but it's been a while) and kinda the same appeal in term of "character". EDIT : Oh, it's an NXT deal apparently. So there.

Not to mention he's working a GCW show next week.

Nothing was close to the 1-2 punch of last year's WK, but overall the show flowed much better to me. With the exception of the House of Torture match. The fact this is still going on is mind boggling to me. If there's one thing to get rid off immediately, it's this shit. Also, the tag match was quite underwhelming and pretty much a nothing match. Kinda like last year BTW, so I dunno what that tells about Bishamon (although the booking is doing them no favors with completely rushed afterthought of a match in less than ten minutes). Overall I thought it was a very fun WK show, really. The real issue is when you look at the overall picture and who's in it. Tama Tonga. Who is mighty fine but nothing *special* (nothing against he guy, and he really is peaking as a single's babyface now, has been since the G1 in 2021 basically). Dave Finlay. Who is mighty fine but nothing special either and therefore way overpushed right now in a Jeff Jarrett in WCW way. Yuta Tsuji losing on the undercard when he basically should be the IWGP champ already. Shota Umino is a "generational" feud with Ren "House of Torture scrub #12" Narita instead of feuding with the bigger stars of the previous generations. The over-reliance of old gimmicks who have now way overstayed their welcome like the Bullet Club. And yeah, I like the War Dogs, all are really good workers. But the Bullet Club thingy was super hot during the AJ Styles/Kenny Omega days. It's a long time ago now. Just plucking whoever's left in that spot is not making them AJ Styles, Omega or Jay White (who was never as hot as the previous two, but who was/is an exceptional worker nonetheless). Tanahashi should really shake up some things here, that is if he's got the power to do so, which is not a given. So Matt Riddle has challenged Tanahashi. A few years back, this would have sounded exciting. Today ? Not so much. I mean, on a purely "pro-wrestling" level, I guess it still is, although I haven't seen a Matt Riddle match since, I dunno, since some GCW show on a Mania week-end years ago probably. But yeah, Matt Riddle. That being said, if Battle in the Valley looks like this : Ospreay vs Okada Mox vs Takagi in a no DQ match Danielson vs ZSJ part II Holy hell. That's basically Forbidden Doors III level shit.

In less than a calendar year, AEW has signed three of my very favorite pro-wrestlers of the last 5 years in Jay White, Will Ospreay and now Deonna Purrazzo. That's quite something.

Yeah, the image of happiness right there on his one-eyed face. It was awesome to see. Match was awesome, surly Okada is the best. Tama vs Takagi, Hiromu vs Despy and the opening junior tag match were also terrific, and the three-way was an excellent garbage clusterfuck. President Tana vs ZSJ was very good, because it always is, at the very least. Main event was what it was, they had some issue at one point with Destinos but the ending stretch was great, and Naito being that charismatic mofo carried the whole thing the whole way through. The post-match run-in was infuriating at first by it actually had a reason, being giving SANADA the chance to save Naito and therefore get some of that rub. Naito got to end the show and it was a great feel-good moment indeed. Tsuji and especially Umino losing was head-scratching at best (man, Narita being in House of Torture is such a kiss of death, what an horrible idea). The Nemeths showing up was kinda cool in a very much WTF is happening now way. It's not like I spent the last 15 years watching Dolph Ziggler matches, so at least whatever they do will be fresh to me.

Just sign Deonna Purrazzo and book her in a best of seven vs Serena Deeb and everything is forgiven.

The other way to have Cody at Mania is to get Roman vs Rock the first night and then whoever wins (wink wink nudge nudge) against Cody the second day. Which won't happen, if only because Roman only works once every four months now, that lazy greedy ass that he is. But it would be hilarious to have CM Punk NOT main event mania AGAIN. Because of the Rock showing up as the special attraction. AGAIN. Fuck, if I'm Levesque, I'm booking this shit for the sheer pettiness of it.

Dynamite Kansai's illness totally fucked her up too now that I think of it. From "awesome worker" to "oh wow, she kinda lame now" in no time.

Up-and-comer is more than pushing it, Ibushi was 39 and peaking (or arguably already past his physical peak) when he got hurt at G1. But yeah, I was wondering the same thing when I was watching the match and could not think of any comparable instance. A guy who was so damn great and came back so diminished, I can't think of. Hopefully he has a good support system, because it must be mentally crushing.

No ropes. And that's been super obvious, he's been gun-shy about jumping to and off the ropes. He's been screwing it up (almost ?) everytime since he came back. The Bloodsport formula allowed him to stay on the mat and kept him from running too. And Mike Bailey. Well, 'nough said.

More a case of being at EC to build for Mania I would guess. Doing Roman/Rock at any other place than Mania would be completely ridiculous. That's the biggest match in the company's history (by sheer numbers). Meanwhile, Naomi is gonna be back. So, basically dropping the TNA title to Jordynne Grace at Hard to Kill and show up at the Rumble, uh ? Well her IMPACT stint was tons of fun.

At the very least, he needs to heal his injuries completely before entertaining working a match again. And something has to be done for his confidence, because it's been completely shot, and it's really sad to see. Maybe he can hook up with KENTA, who's NXT stint almost destroyed his career. Ibushi has enough character, charisma and ability to be creative to still be a really fun pro-wrestler in a different way than he used to. I could dig a Kota Ibushi doing nothing but chops, punches, kicks and intimidation. Who would have thought sometime in 2017, that 6 years later, both Shibata and Ibushi would be under contract with the second US promotion, the first still being awesome and the later being a tragic shell of himself.

It's sad, but Kota Ibushi probably should consider retirement. He fucked both his ankles in the NOAH match against Marufuji. He couldn't even stand at the end of the match. The guy was gonna be NJPW biggest new stars, he was one of the greatest worker in the world, then the G1 injury happened and it's just been disaster after disaster from that point on.

Kevin Dunn departing is as good an indication as anything that Vince has lost his power. I wonder how long Brucie is for the ride, still. I mean, the guy is a leech, so probably for a while still, but he's the last of the old guard in the higher hierarchy.

Like I said before... Now I really want Dwayne vs Roman and Punk vs Austin. Those are Mania main events that would take the breath away of the audience, among others.
