Weirder career than Johnny Ace?
Hum… what ? Eric Bischoff was doing the heel authority figure one year and a half before Vince. Bischoff firing Randy Anderson in front of his children is an iconic moment of the "evil boss" gimmick. Vince was great at it (for a while, before it overstayed its welcome), but let's not play into WWE official revisionnism around here, please.

[1992-08-12-NJPW-G1 Climax] Jushin Liger vs Wild Pegasus
Pretty much. It's funny, 13 years ago when I was watching entire years of New Japan, I realized that I connected less with this style of match than with Choshu's big main events. And watching tis today, I feel pretty much the same way. Yes, Liger is great. Yes, Benoit's execution is terrific. But there's still something lacking to me, to the point I'm not sure I would call it a great match. Shallow is the right word. Bomb throwing junior matches just lacks something when you've seen all the spots in the world and then some. (I was more a fan of Liger's matches with Honaga back then, which were a lot less workrate based)

Shawn Michaels v. Steve Austin
Miss Baba probably would have liked him better than Johnny Ace.

Genichiro Tenryu
I love Yatsu's theme. It's so early 90's housy synth-pop.

Shawn Michaels v. Steve Austin
The same here. And I had such a crush on Sherri back then.

[1992-04-18-SWS] Ric Flair vs Genichiro Tenryu (2/3 falls)
Disagree. To me this match is totally a matter of Tenryu adapting to Flair's pace, which is probably why he gave so much offense to Flair. There's no way Flair could have worked a regular Tenryu paced match. Good match, but you'd expect more out of these two working together. Flair's bumps out of Tenryu's enzuigiris were goofy as hell. It's telling that Tenryu had a better and more compelling match with Ashura Hara, which was a total stiffest, but with purpose, and even with Savage in 90 (better in term of pure spectacle). Here Tenryu made the most sense of out Ric Flair "figure four master", which is not something you'd see in the US since anybody can reverse the hold like it's nothing. The negative is that although it made a bit more sense, it was a dryer than the usual "Flair show". Odd match in the Flair body of work when you think about it.

Haku/Meng
Anyone interested in Haku should definitely check out his stint in SWS in 91/92 tagging with Yoshiaki Yatsu, mostly in semi and main-events involving Tenryu. Good stuff, interesting to see Haku mixing up with the stiff style of the promotion and being totally at ease there.

Pro wrestling dream / nightmare
Ok, no idea where to put this. Last night, I had this strange dream where I was basically wrestling Jimmy Snuka, who looked more or less like Finn Balor, and doing the same kind of routine with the entrance and makeup. And I caned him until he bled. NO IDEA WHY. Floor is yours. Or not.

Shawn Michaels v. Steve Austin
The problem I have with Shawn, rewatching his stuff, is that the vaunted "great matches" just aren't that good in retrospect. So, when all of a sudden there are not that much "great matches" anymore, it becomes way easier to take Austin over Shawn. And don't pimp that "miracle" return to me. The only thing miraculous about it was still coming out to that Heartbreak Kid 80's theme (I know, it was produced in 92, but it sounded like the 80's, Jimmy Hart can't be accused of being a guy surfing on what was curent in term of pop culture past the mid 80's) with his crooked eye, new "religious" belief and still get over as the old HBK.

Your Wrestling Pet Peeves/Utter Hatreds
Oh, I remember the Apaches working not only intergender matches, but father vs daughters stuff in ARSION, and it was actually enjoyable because it never got ridiculous. Are the Apaches sisters as cool now as they were 15 years ago ? They weren't very good in 98, but by 00 both Mari and Fabi were kicking ass.

Your Wrestling Pet Peeves/Utter Hatreds
Beyond the legitimacy issue which has been adressed and with which I totally agree, this gif does scream "violence against women" too, and although it's not obvious when they are just bouncing off each other doing lucha spots (it does expose the whole style though), it can quickly be a real issue with me. Oh, and fuck the Young Bucks.

Genichiro Tenryu
All those SWS tag matches are usually quite fun. And I loved Tenryu vs Ashura from later in the year.

Watching the Miss Jacqueline shoot. Again, RF's ineptness in 2015 is scary. Bad sound because Jackie's hair are *on* the freaking mic all the time. Then, classic RF moment : she talks about her very first match, then one minute and a half later : "Do you remember your first match ?". Seriously ? Anyway, crap interview, but Jackie seems like a really cool girl, and damn, she's 51 and time doesn't seem to have that much grasp on her.

[1991-11-10-SWS] Genichiro Tenryu vs Ashura Hara
Agree. Terrific match, with some awesome selling and bumping by Tenryu. Sure, it goes way beyond what's needed in term of stiffness, and you get the feel that's the only way to get a compelling single match with Hara, but it tells a story and the work is pretty much spotless, for what they try to accomplish (well, the last powerbomb didn't look so good). Yeah, Hara's bruise was nasty. Best SWS match ever, and probably Tenryu's best single match in two years (which is more telling of the fact Tenryu didn't get much of a chance after leaving AJ, as he's straight awesome here).

Sasha Banks on the main roster
Like I said in another thread, I just want Kelis to sing "Bossy" during her entrance at Mania.

Run DMC in 2000 ? I mean, all respect due to the allmighty Run DMC, but as far as pop culture relevance, it's hilarious that WWE would be that far behind. Even WCW getting Master P in 99 was more relevant (if ill concieved). Well, maybe that means they can get Kelis singing "Bossy" for Sasha Banks at next Mania. Now, that would be all kind of awesome for Banks (and would make my day, I'm a Kelis mark). Tori going hip hop ? Interesting, since apparently she was a yoga/new-age kinda girl.

I really liked Rude with DX, because he looked like the toughest bastard ever and brought an aura of dangerosity to the stable. I guess that's why Micheals didn't enjoy it, because him and HHH couldn't even pretend being tough in real life, while Rude was. Double Rude after Montreal remains of of my favourite moment of the MNW.

Your Wrestling Pet Peeves/Utter Hatreds
Kinda the same thing, although I enjoyed them longer, basically because that was Shawn's best heel work ever. But as soon as they turned babyfaces, it became silly. I was a Nation fan. The DX comebacks, from the very few I've seen, is something I'm glad I'll never witnessed, and won't revisit, ever.

Of course. But he also says that JBL isn't a bully. Which, by all acount, sounds idealistic, to be generous (well, he also says that Eddie was a "great father"… didn't Eddie basically ODed in front of his family once ?).

Wached this. It's 2015. RF still does the same old "Memories of X" stupid "interview". RF still doesn't edit when Rey check his phone for 30 seconds. It's amazing that anyone would buy his stuff at this point. Being the first in the game surely helped him the most. I wish Rey would work with KC instead. Total nice guy. He even says good things about JBL. Nothing earth shattering in terms of knowing how things work in WWE though, nor really good stories.

[1991-10-29-SWS] Yoshinari Asai vs Bestia Salvaje
Really good Nitro match. It's always odd to see Asai without the mask, as he's clearly one guy who didn't need one (although the Dragon one remains one of my all-time favourite), good looking guy and all. He really gets the star treatment from SWS, who badly needed one other than Tenryu. The announcer actually call him the Ultimo Dragon, so I guess that was his nickname even before he put on the mask. Not familiar with Salvaje, but he looked like a really good worker too.
