[1997-07-22-WCW-Tuesday Nitro] J.J. Dillon and Raven
we've had this discussion before but was a Gen Xer/slacker/grunger still a workable character in 1997? Hell from 94-96? There were still some remnants of that culture in society but it was definitely fading. I was a freshman in college at this time and I don't remember seeing hardly any grunge type kids anymore. In fact it was so long ago I can't even remember the style at that time anymore. I just remember hearing a lot of Third Eye Blind songs on the radio.

Night of Champions
Obviously Bryan is stripped of the title tomorrow. The Ryback/Heyman pairing should be awesome

[1997-10-25-ECW-TV] Shane Douglas and Rick Rude
Tammy just looks ridiculously hot here. Good God

[1997-09-29-WWF-Raw] DX and the Hart Foundation
Definitely happened. Must have been off camera as I mentioned. I still remember sitting behind two smarks who talked about Disco Inferno being fired by WCW for refusing to job to jacqueline. Remember that night well. Been to three RAWs and this was by far my favorite

[1997-09-29-WWF-Raw] DX and the Hart Foundation
I was at this show and Hunter and Shawn made out of the cameras stopped rolling. Eeer, maybe it made air but they definitely kissed. is this the one? and Loss I can't tell if you liked Shawn's heel push or not? BTW, you rightly mentioned Bret looking awkward during this feud. He's much better ad libbing/speaking on his feet now. I want a current Bret v 1997 Shawn verbal debate promo. Bret can call him a dickhead and ask him how Vince's "load" tasted

[1997-09-08-WWF-Raw] XXX Files
I think this angle shows that Russo had obviously gained quite a bit of power. This is all trademark Vince Russo. I can remember Sunny criticizing this angle on one of the B shows

[1997-09-06-ECW-TV] Sabu vs Tommy Dreamer
IIRC this angle caused a minor outrage on the net at the time. I guess combined with the previous flag covering angle. Now it seems like no big deal, but in 1997...

[1997-09-01-WCW-Nitro] NWO Four Horsemen Parody
Holy Shit my first day at college was the day after this aired! Over 16 god damn years ago!

[1997-09-01-WCW-Nitro] NWO Four Horsemen Parody
Maybe the hardest I've ever laughed watching wrestling. I'm probably in the minority but this is a fantastic segment

as an aside Brie and AJ stiffed the hell out of each other during their brawl. It was quite awesome

Most common lies in shoot interviews
"The cops let us go...."

this angle has broke DVDVR's brain. Seriously what the hell is going on over there? As someone there pointed out it's like reading the comments on Scott Keith's blog

that Stephanie promo. Yeesh that was cringe worthy. And I don't mean it was bad. Just, yeesh

[1997-08-18-WWF-Raw] The Undertaker & Mankind vs Shawn Michaels & Hunter Hearst Helmsley
was this supposed to be a subtle nod to their friendship or did they make a change the next week when they were all buddy buddy? I can remember at the time knowing that both were in the clique and was confused why they acted like they didn't want to team. Kayfabe wise it made sense for them not to want to team but was it a wink-wink?... man was this confusing. But turned out awesome

Jaaawn Cena
I'll always remember Michrome calling him "first day of wrestling school" bad during 05/06. I'm pretty sure this was at NMB!
-
Current WWE
It's been a while that an angle has been this polarizing online. Bunch of people seem to hate it and think Bryan is being buried (and the roster are pussies) while others can't wait for the revolt

Current WWE
holy shit that was quite the promo by AJ

[1997-06-15-WCW-Great American Bash] Ric Flair & Roddy Piper vs Scott Hall & Kevin Nash
was it the Bash or Slamboree where Piper and Nash came to blows backstage? I can remember at the time thinking it was real sad. Their 99 feud was even more pathetic if that's even possible. Oh it was 1999 WCW so it *was* possible

Oh My God that is so awesome! Just fantastic!

Summerslam Live Thoughts
to give him credit I thought Hunter was real good last tonight. Long winded of course, but we should have expected that after the last 15 years. It's a total rehash of Austin/McMahon but 15 years have passed so I think this has a chance. BTW, I loved Teddy Long being the only one clapping for Orton on the stage. They should have this guy be a heel manager again

[1997-06-09-WWF-Raw] Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Mankind
I remember Mick being on the Stern show around this time (maybe it was early 98) and mentioned how terrible Chyna was in this feud in his ah shucks goofy kind of way. (she hurt him at Summerslam with the cage door spot and missed her cues the whole match) I think that was the interview that started Stern's bizarre fascination with Joanie Laurer. It was also the interview where Mick said that Sable was the "least talented person ever to make a million dollars". I think for years Mick was jealous of the workers that made more money than him but his success in the attitude era put that to rest. Obviously this was the turning point in his career

[1997-01-13-WCW-Nitro] Diamond Dallas Page and The Outsiders
I know I'm in the minority but I just never could get into DDP during this time period. I won't doubt he was crazy over and his push was an organic rise to the top but the guy did nothing for me. Worked hard in the ring, great bumper, good looking offense but his promos bored me to tears. I always thought he was a pretty lousy talker. Especially in 98/99 when you could fill in the 'scums" mad libs style in his promos

[1997-06-07-ECW-Wrestlepalooza] Raven vs Tommy Dreamer / Sabu vs Taz / Shane Douglas vs Taz
Post match stuff is just incredible. Maybe my favorite ECW match/segment of all time. Still gives me chills. What an incredible year for the business!

Darren Young comes out as gay in TMZ airport interview
I don't think Cena came off too badly in that interview. The "behaving himself in the lockeroom" stuff was odd but I thought he was genuine. Good for Young!

The Bix Bleacher Report articles thread
I think UPN refused to air Torrie and Dawn making out which angered Vince. It was one of the main selling points for the Armageddon PPV. IIRC, the hotel shoot was a mess. The only people in the room were Torrie, Dawn, Stephanie McMahon (produced the segment) and the cameraman. Apparently Torrie couldn't get it right and kept acting like she was "into it" but she was supposed to be ambiguous and the audience would decide for themselves if she liked it or not. Both of them got drunk on champagne and finally got the right takes. This was in Dawn Marie's shoot I believe
