Glad to see I'm not the only one who felt this way. I've seen it several times, and even though I'm now a big fan of both of them it just doesn't grab me at all.

I go so far as to prefer this to the Misawa/Kawada classic a couple weeks later. Here's my take from my last viewing, in '07: "This match rules all, it's got almost zero downtime in 40 minutes, it's got every last element of greatness you come to expect from All Japan in the mid-90s, and it has most of those elements in spades. Several amazing nearfalls, several amazing exchanges, a throwback to the Jumbo vs Misawa tags in how they do leg work, plenty of chippy spots that bring the hate, lots of build off the 12/93 tag... I mean this raised the bar on 'epic'. This is more epic than any Jumbo vs Misawa tag, it's more epic than the 12/93 tag, it's more epic than the big '93 singles matches, and it's super smartly worked and consistent IN ADDITION TO being epic. The opening third of this was more involving than the opening third of almost any match in the decade, and the opening third is 13 minutes long!"

'94 CC was definitely not as good as '95. Even if one prefers the '94 final to '95 (I don't), it can't be ahead by much. Meanwhile, '95 has a better internal story (Taue's rise). '95 is famous in part because it had a 3-tape comm release, which is far more than any tour they did afterwards. but '94 also had a 3-tape release. The '94 round-robin highlight is generally considered to be Hansen/Kobashi, which I think drags quite a bit; I prefer Kawada/Taue and Kawada/Kobashi from '95. Hard not to prefer the '95 iteration of Taue/Kobashi to either of the ones on the '94 tour. I'd also take the '95 Misawa/Kawada. Plus we get Misawa/Kobashi and Misawa/Taue round-robin matches in '95. '94 does have a better Baba 6-man... that's about it.

So there's no real parallel between Japan and Mexico, good to know. What about England?

I'm working on an article on interpromotional feuds in Japan. Before I delve into how this compares to the US, where you had lots of regional monolopies followed by a tiny number of national groups, I want to make sure I'm not leaving out other places. -During its peak, did Mexican companies cooperate much? Do they now? -Ditto for the UK.

I'm with you, though I tend to be of a mind that based on who else is in a match I can be fairly sure how the match will turn out. Even one next-tier-down wrestler (especially in terms of execution) can throw a wrench in the spotfest that these matches usually are. Early '94 Hasegawa should not have been in long tags; ditto early '94 LCO (or any LCO, for my money).

I don't understand why Vince keeps bothering with WWE Films. I mean, if his goal is to lose money, he can cut me a check and it would be a lot less hassle. If the goal isn't to lose money then I'm just confused. Everyone remembers the XFL and WBF and other Vince flops, but WWE Films at this point has to be the biggest money-loser and it's FAR more long-lived, yet it seems to just get shrugged off.
