Starrcade is back
Gallows and Anderson absolutely have to work as their Southpaw Regional Wrestling gimmicks.

No Mercy 2017
Like, wasn't 85% of The Shield's appeal is that they'd have awesome tags with the other good teams/units of the time? Who is there for them to work with in 6 mans that Ambrose and Rollins wouldn't work as tag champs anyway?

WWE Network... It's Here
The idea of WWE-written drama with WWE workers taking roles is making me laugh so much that I want to see that over any unearthed footage they have in the vaults. Having said that, I'd be down for them finding a way to post some classic ROH stuff, even if it's just select Joe/Styles/Bryan matches

Bobby Heenan RIP
Heenan is, maybe, my favourite wrestling personality of all time. So quick on the draw and while people, rightfully, speak of his chemistry with Monsoon, was there anyone he didn't have chemistry with? In the WWF, anyway. Prime Heenan was able to be plugged in with anyone, in any situation, and throw out perfectly timed comedy that would have any seasoned comedian in the world impressed. That's before you mention his ability to rattle off fantastic promo after promo, the excellent managerial work and, as recent unearthed finds have shown, pitch-perfect, chicken shit heel in-ring work. I could go all day but I think this is my favourite, under heralded Heenan moment. It's worth it for Vince cracking alone but the razor-sharp delivery, the timing and the crack in his voice at "He's alive!" would be the work of a master in any profession, never mind pro wrestling.

WWE Network... It's Here
I'm glad; I haven't watched the death throes of WCW for years and Thunder being uploaded can give me the full experience one more time.

Undertaker could be coming back
I find it hilarious that they'd run Cena/Taker as a quasi-nostalgia match at Mania, 10 years after they should have ran it as a huge money making program.

NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III
As a man who has a friend called Adam Cole, I was incredibly disoriented when I saw that name trending this morning until I clicked onwards and found out. Basically, I'm annoyed because I thought my friend's business had taken off in a huge way and now I'm already against everything he does because he unwittingly deceived me this morning.

[1990-01-31-NJPW] Jushin Liger vs Naoki Sano
Liger sets the tone by slapping Sano in the face and the pace doesn't let up for a long time. Sano is fantastic at rushing Liger; they do the out of ring danger spot and it cuts right back to Sano applying. As the match continues, Liger sells fantastically, though helped by Sano doing some fantastic mask ripping, As someone said, this doesn't feel like a tournament final, this seems like two men who are in a tournament final who just happen to fucking hate each other. Great match, great booking.

[1990-01-30-NJPW] Jushin Liger vs Owen Hart
This feels like a match with a hot finishing stretch but nothing that preceded it has any bearing on that hot finish. Liger is obviously saving himself for the later round and Owen hasn't knitted everything together yet. Though, the fake out dive into the dropkick shows that he had an eye for memorable spots as early as 90. Despite the flaws and despite Ownn's erratic offense, I think this is a perfectly fine match in the context of the tournament. Early favourite Liger gets into a tough match with an unexpected opponent, advances but is given a great match. A classic story,

Shoots Review and Preview thread
Cornette's 97 timeline is fantastic, even if his knowledge of what was going diminishes in the later half of the year.

WWE Network... It's Here
Man, I had no idea about this and it rules. I can understand why he recycled it because that's a fantastic 80s, fist pumping anthem

[1980-01-03-AJPW] Giant Baba & Jumbo Tsuruta vs Angelo Mosca & Bruiser Brody (2/3 falls)
It can't be overstated how great Jumbo's ring jacket is but I have to agree that this isn't great. It sucks because it has the structure of a great tag match, it's just 3/4 of the recipe is wrong.

[1980-01-03-AJPW] Genichiro Tenryu & Rocky Hata vs Bill Irwin & Billy Robinson
A pretty dry match (well, what we see), all in all. My boy Tenryu is rocking great purple trunks but you don't really see what will make him great later in the decade as the smoother sequences are with Rocky. Though, having called it dry, the action does pick up when Tenryu interrupts a Robinson submission and we see some decent suplexes before a fall. It would be cool to see the earlier portions of the match but it was a fun enough piece of wrestling.

WWE Battleground
A pretty weak card all around but I expect the tag and Cena/Rusev to be worth watching. I'm also going for Orton winning tonight with Mahal winning the title IN India with the idea that they're going to have a huge crowd pop that they can show in the future.

[1990-01-27-USWA-Memphis TV] Angry Jerry Lawler
Seriously, Lawler and Brown are a fantastic pair. I could watch them squabble all day. "Has Rodney Dangerfield called yet?" is yet another fantastic one-liner in the rolling sitcom that is USWA

[1990-01-27-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Robert Fuller & Brian Lee
Hilarious segment where Robert Fuller actually cuts a decent, buskers night sing-a-long sessions. "In the tradition of Elvis, Billy Joe Travis and some of the better singers" got a pop out of me. Heels looking out for heels! Lawler and Brian Lee consoling him as he's singing is another great touch. At times, these Memphis shows have the feel of loose, comedy theatre and I can only imagine how fun it must have been to be a crowd member

[1990-01-26-USWA Texas] Jeff Jarrett vs Billy Joe Travis (Guitar on a Pole)
Billy Joe Travis warms my heart by arguing with an old lady in the first 10 seconds of this, just about everything he does is perfect to me. Speaking of which, Jarrett is great in this; just a fantastic fired-up babyface performance that he really was fantastic at. It makes you wish he didn't morph into the unconvincing badass of his later years, even if he did always remain a good worker. Travis bumps huge for everything and probably does take a bit too much punishment but the crowd is with them and it all blends nicely into the kind of chaotic brawling that Memphis always did better than anyone. Another great segment in a month filled with them.

[1990-01-26-NWA-Power Hour] Ric Flair & Arn Anderson & Sting vs Great Muta & Buzz Sawyer & Dragon Master
Good lord did Ric Flair, the booker, know how to put on some fantastic TV main events and we have more Cornette and Ross on commentary! More praise for Sawyer who cuts a pretty incredible pace throughout all of this, not to mention his great reactions to the (incredibly hot) crowd which just stokes them up even further. I LOVE Arn pulling Sting over the ropes for the flying clothesline since Stinger gets some awesome height on it. I agree that babyface Arn is fantastic; able to balance being the Enforcer with showing enough babyface vulnerability and selling to make the crowd fear he might lose. Flair as FIP works really well but the best moments are between him and Sawyer, making you realise how good, not even a Clash main, but just an Eaton style TV main would be with those two. Great TV match but when the crowd is this hot, everyone involved starts firing on all cylinders through osmosis.
