  1. Cool segment that lays another piece of groundwork for the road ahead and it's always nice to see Cornette and Flair have a chance to do something together. Great Balls of Fire is a silly theme song for someone like Woman but it's nowhere near as out of place as Nitron who, once more, despite his size, looks like the least intimidating bodyguard ever. Nevertheless, Woman and Flair work well together and the segment has a funny little run-out with Cornette looking a goof as usual.
  2. "Did someone say Free Cheese" is legit one of my biggest wrestling laughs ever. Cobra puts out a better promo this time than last and shows enough babyface fire to hype the show. As said, it's a nice bit of symmetry with Austin bowing out here and then finishing the year in the biggest superstar run of all time.
  3. Next level stuff from Lawler. That guy must have soaked up every joke and insult he'd ever heard before unleashing them on the wrestling world.
  4. Lawler is just fantastic in these promo segments; he really was a master at flying off the top of his head and Dave Brown is great in his role as bemused bystander who is just trying to keep the ball rolling. He really does cut near to the knuckle with some of his remarks but god damn if this crowd isn't laughing their head off anyway.
  5. When I first started this yearbook (and lost myself half way through), Billy Joe Travis was my biggest revelation. I'm so happy to see that rewatching it hasn't dulled my love for him. I have a strong affinity for campy music videos as a way to get heels over and this is one of the most effective you'll see.
  6. Great match with a really hot finish and strong build for the 6-man. Flair's booking threw out some fantastic TV mains. Arn as a babyface seemed really motivated and put on a good performance; all his big spots looked typically great and when he had to bump, they were great. As mentioned, the Horsemen turning heel really robbed us of great Flair/Arn face runs.
  7. Did the details of Lesnar's mega money contract ever surface?
  8. It's interesting to rewatch this having just watched Cornette's 1990 timeline shoot as he mentions that Flair would use his status as booker to put together good singles matches with guys he wanted to work with and Eaton obviously fit the bill. Not much to add other than I agree with everyone saying this is a brilliant match that hits every mark pretty much perfectly.
  9. I think WWF/E always had a great record at the "King" gimmick whenever they resuscitated it (King Booker, for instance) but Macho is the all-time best at it. 100% committed, Sherri being great alongside him, even though they were around the middle of the deck at the time. Typically strong promo from the two where they just leap off the screen and more solid Rumble hype from the WWF.
  10. A nice contrast with the previous segment with Flair, here. Very calm with his PWI award and in full Nature Boy mode here. And who can blame Sting for being excited at joining the Horsemen? It was the sweetest gig of the time.
  11. I crack up every single time I see this painting, it's hilarious. I wonder who drew that thing. The crowd seem to really be into Norman, to the point where I agree that this could have been a great angle to rehash with Eugene.
  12. Lawler kills it with a hilarious, albeit racist promo. It's always funny seeing Lawler swing for the crassest stereotypes possible in Memphis, while the black section of the audience laughs their head off. King Cobra, on the other hand is....not great though is probably perfect face-fodder for heel Lawler to work around.
  13. Lawler asleep at the desk is the first of many laughs he's going to throw up in USWA this year. He even fires off two great lines about Dustin who is cultivating that great Dusty impression already. Gary Young's hair is something else; like a comedy CAW from Smackdown 2 though his promo is solid, albeit with an edgy line about him being an abortion survivor. A pretty perfect sleaze heel promo.
  14. I could watch Bobby Heenan read the phone book. Sherri is fantastic, as mentioned but the whole segment is a really great way of hyping the Rumble and letting managers get their guys over going into it.
  15. Hey, I can sympathise with Rick. My favourite jacket once got damaged beyond repair at a gig once and I felt awful for weeks. A light little, crowd popping angle that, as said, the WWF always did really well
  16. I agree with Loss about Fulton bringing some cool touches to this. Little things like reacting to Kawada feigning kicks in a great exaggerated way and then just going wild with forearms to Fuyuki on the apron, giving a nice hint at how the finishing stretch was going to go. All in all, this is a good tag match between two good teams. It took a while to get into the groove but it really trucked toward the end.
  17. Very fun tag with a kinda silly ending angle. Maybe hindsight helps here but you can already see that Eddie has a lot of the intangibles that would make him a star.
  18. Really good 6-man featuring 6 guys that couldn't really fail to have a good match. The Casas/Santo pairing is just fantastic to begin and I actually thought that Dragon, his awkward sequence with Panther aside, had a pretty good showing, especially in the first caida and at least kept up with the pace. I'll try not to repeat too much of what others have said but Fuerza is fantastic at doing the shit nobody else is. Why won't anybody shake the poor man's hand? I agree that the second caida feels a bit poor compared to the cool pairings of the first but the third caida escalates enough to bring it back up at the end. Hamada hits Casas with a headbutt so Panther just straight up kicks him in the chest as he's got him in a submission. That's the kind of violence I can appreciate. Santo's senton into the dive through the ropes is totally a spot that would have seen light of day in one of those chaotic Shield 6-mans from 2013. Great start.
  19. Isn't it a case that more and more younger people have new, more convenient ways to watch than tuning in live though? Not to defend them as Rollins, in particular, had a total business tanking quality run on top but aren't TV ratings meaning less and less these days?
  20. 2008 dropped and they're flying through 2009 too so there's every chance the entire run will be up in the next few days
  21. Digging into Night 1 now and one thing jumped out immediately. I thought Jay Lethal put on a really strong performance in the match with Page. The selling of the ribs was sound but everything (bar his finisher) connected nicely and looked really crisp. As someone that hasn't seen Lethal for a while, I feel like I need to dig into more of his recent work. Does he have any more short, well-put together matches like that?
  22. Finished it last night and enjoyed it. I didn't love it but it was definitely an easy watch. I won't repeat what others are saying but I got a very 'Orange is the New Black' vibe from the characterisation and dialogue; you get the sense that a Season 2 would bring certain characters forward and give them a chance to develop more.
  23. That rules. It'll be a shame to wait for a while for the years it was actually good but I haven't seen those original, weird 2006 shows since they aired, pretty much.

Shit, that pop for The Hardys was ridiculous. McIntyre and The Hardys are two A+ picks to throw out over Mania weekend.
