DVD #22

November 1:Nanao comprehensive citizen gymnasium (aired ?)

HARU SONADA/Tenryu/Tsuruta vs. Hiro Saito/Super Strong Machine/Ashura Hara - Plenty of stiff offense in this one with Hara taking a particularly hideous beating. At least he got to take the win with a lariat on Sonada. Overall, they didn't do a very good job of building momentum through the match. The segments just felt random.

Shinnichi Nakano/ANIMAL HAMAGUCHI vs. Animal Warrior - Reviewed on Classics.

Hiroshi Wajima vs. Tiger Jeet Singh - I actually liked the concept of this match, with Singh jumping the overhyped phenom and abusing him most of the way. But Wajima was just so shitty that I couldn't get into his comeback. He showed some fire, but his stomps and punches looked sub-amateurish.

Yoshiaki Yatsu/Riki Choshu vs. TERRY FUNK/Dory Funk Jr. - Nice little brawl on the outside between Terry and Choshu, but then the episode just ended. Fuck.

10/27/86 (aired 11/8/86)

Paul Diamond vs. Hiro Saito - These guys just did not flow together.

Road Warriors vs. Samson Fuyuki/Takashi Ishikawa - I was surprised that the natives got in any offense.

Riki Choshu/Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Jumbo Tsuruta/Genichiro Tenryu - Neither team could gain a sustained advantage for most of the match, but the action and stiffness picked up early and never really flagged. Finally, Jumbo and Tenryu managed to isolate Yatsu and destroy his back. But Jumbo missed a shoulderblock into the corner, and Choshu popped the crowd by busting in and drilling him with a lariat. He and Yatsu followed with a couple of big double team moves, but then Jumbo drew an equally big pop with a counter suplex on Yatsu. That set up a wild finishing run full of nearfalls, momentum shifts and great saves. I didn't mind the countout in this case because it flowed naturally from all the chaos. This lacked the signature moments of their matches from January and February, but it's hard to complain about two of the best teams in the world going hard for 25 minutes before a hot crowd. Nomination.
