Really good sprint in which Ishikawa showed a lot of spirit standing in for Tenryu. Normally, Choshu and Jumbo didn't go at it much in these second-tier tags but that was hardly the case here. In fact, Jumbo might have eaten more punishment than Ishikawa. I liked the finish a lot. Ishikawa had Yatsu in a half crab and Choshu ran in to bust it up with a lariat. But then Jumbo ran in and lariated Riki, carrying them both outside. Ishikawa went to the top to finish Yatsu but Choshu stunned Jumbo on the outside and did one of his great run-down-the-apron ambushes, knocking Ishikawa down with yet another lariat. Yatsu then finished the spunky cruiserweight with a power slam. I try to be discerning with these shorter, lower-card tags but damn, I enjoyed this one enough to throw it on the block.

Riki Choshu/Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Jumbo Tsuruta/Takashi Ishikawa, 1/31/87 (TV3)

- OK, this match is going to really depend on the role that Ishikawa plays. I love what the other three do so I don’t think I will be shocked there. I was about to reject the match ten minutes in but when Choshu and Jumbo started throwing lariats on the B-team this picked up and piqued my interest. However, the stretch run did not last very long at all before Yatsu takes Ishikawa out with the powerslam. Well, that was anti-climatic. Oh well. I think for a short match like this, they needed to work a sprint. Instead they worked the first ten minutes like they were going 25-30 minutes. The stretch was cool but lasted 30 seconds. No vote.

Riki Choshu & Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Takashi Ishikawa & Jumbo Tsuruta (1/31/87)

Hot crowd here which is always a plus. This was a good match but not a nomination because of what Will said in the fact that they worked like they were going long then went right to the ending. I like Ishikawa and he was fine here but this just didn't feel special which on this set full of great tag matches, there has to be something that puts it over the top and this didn't have it. Maybe if this had more time it could've had a shot but not a nomination.
