DVD #4

???

Hiroshi Wajima Special - All this Wajima hype caused me to do some actual research on him, and he really was a big deal, only the 54th sumo to achieve the yokozuna rank. Sports Illustrated even did a feature on his transition from sumo to pro wrestling (which featured an amusing portrayal of Baba as a cigar-chomping carny.) Anyway, none of that changes the fact he was the drizzling shits as a worker. But I at least get why they threw so much effort into his push. I wonder if Baba was bummed when he realized the guy couldn't work viable main events?

2/14/87 (taped 2/3)

1. Tiger Mask vs. Frankie Lancaster (7:21 of 8:21 shown) - I felt like I was watching a Misawa training session. Selection bias will definitely obscure how crappy he was for a lot of the '80s.

2. Riki Choshu/Yoshiaki Yatsu/Animal Hamaguchi vs.

Jumbo Tsuruta/Takashi Ishikawa/Haru Sonada (7:46 of 11:18 shown) - Drab way for Choshu to finish his run with All-Japan. Mostly, he and his buddies just beat up Jumbo's jobber pals. Nothing distinctive here.

3. Genichiro Tenryu/Hiroshi Wajima vs. Tiger Jeet Singh/A. Sheik (8:46 complete) - Reviewed on Classics.
