At least we'll have a solid representation of this match-up from 1989. Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Joel Deaton (4:58 complete) - Really good back-and-forth action while it lasted. Just not enough to it for a nomination. Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Jerry Oates (6:03 complete) - Oates actually jumped on Jumbo at the bell and leveled him with a bunch of punches and forearms. That meant Jumbo had to rally, which actually got the crowd into the match. Decent match, which meant it exceeded my expectations. Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara vs. Stan Hansen/Terry Gordy (14:52 complete) - This started as an excellent, physical match, with Hansen and Gordy really pummeling the natives and Hara keeping things competitive with his awesome, uppercut-fueled rallies. But the stretch after Tenryu knocked Hansen loopy with an enzuigiri was off-the-charts awesome. Hansen awoke in full rampage mode, diving through the ropes and then over the rail to get at Tenryu. I'm not sure I've seen someone hurl chairs directly at the camera like that; he seemed genuinely unhinged. Originally, I thought this "potato incident" might go on only as an extra, but the match leading up to it was absolutely good enough to pull a nomination. I bet this will do well in the final poll. It was certainly a memorable happening from the decade. 3/12/88 (taped 3/9/88 ) Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Tiger Mask (14:38 complete) - Reviewed on Classics.
