Posted July 13, 201015 yr comment_5453093 Jumbo started out trying to wrench Tenryu's head off. But once Tenryu came up for air, he went after Jumbo's right knee, which he had attacked in the previous week's match. Yatsu looked great after he took Jumbo's hot tag, but the match sagged a bit when he slapped his leg hold on Hara. Things didn't pick up again until the stretch run, when Jumbo kept hitting high knees and then hobbling around on his leg. At first, I thought he was blowing off Tenryu's work. But really, he was building a story about fighting through it. His sellling was good enough that it worked. He set up the finish by hitting a big knee on Hara, thus giving Yatsu an opening to hit his German suplex for the pin. Strikes against the match include the sluggish middle and a blah crowd. Pluses include the followthrough on the leg story and the generally exciting finish. I'll call it a low-level nomination, but if their August matches blow it away, I won't fight for it. 1988 All Japan TV Disc 12
October 13, 201014 yr comment_5457169 PWF Tag Titles: Revolution (Ashura Hara & Genichiro Tenryu) © vs. Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu (6/4/88) This starts slow with everyone working holds and not showing the fierceness of some of the previous matches. Revolution did work over Jumbo's right leg which was different and they really punished it. Yatsu would come in and went to work on Tenryu even getting the Prison Lock but Hara would come in and paintbrushed him to break that up. Yatsu would recover though and got the Prison Lock on Hara with Tenryu standing there on the apron unlike Hara but he would tag in and blasted Yatsu with a lariat. Jumbo would come back in and he went to work on Tenryu's leg before Hara & Yatsu started brawling on the floor stepping up the intensity a bit. Jumbo then would run wild before landing on his bad right leg after a high knee on Tenryu selling it big before hitting another one which he also sold for. Then we would get a hot stretch run where they tried to put Hara away but he bounced back and Revolution then tried to put Jumbo away working over the right leg then going to Yatsu but Jumbo hit Hara with a high knee hurting himself again and Yatsu would finish off Hara with a German Suplex hold to win. This had it's slow parts but this was a damn good match telling a really good story and this moves forward easily.
October 17, 201014 yr comment_5457314 Childs rewatch this.... Jumbo Tsuruta/Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara, 6/4/88 (5/29-6/5) - Both teams working headlocks early on with Hara looking especially solid. I feel like I have seen Jumbo-Tenryu match up at least 50 times and it never seems to get old after a nasty kick to the head or hard chop. Interesting strategy similar to the Martel match where the teams would work a different part so when the other team would gain an advantage, they would respond and work the same part. Shit, this may be Hara’s most impressionable match… on offense and taking punishment. Those fucking headbutts are sick. I like the fact that Revolution stuck with attacking the leg throughout the match. Great stretch run with Yatsu trying to hit the German on Hara and after Jumbo/Tenryu interference, finally nailing it. STRONG NOMINATION primarily for Hara making an impression.
October 17, 201014 yr Author comment_5457318 I nominated it, and you guys both really liked it, so that's enough for it to go into the love folder as far as I'm concerned.
