Lucha Libre from Arena Coliseo 4/18/87

Massacre/MS1/Espectro Jr. vs. Siglo XX/Mogur (w/ Mask)/Stuka

All three rudos are really fun in this match, and Stuka has a bunch of fun shit. This isn't a tremendous match, but good rudo performances, and one good technico performance is enough to at least nominate this match.

Tony Salazar/Rayo De Jalisco Jr./Super Halcon vs. Gran Cochisse/Mascara Ano Dos Mil/Universo Dos Mil

Alot of fun, as this was mostly stooging and comedy spots. I especially dug Cochisse as he had a bunch of amusing shit I hadn't seen before. Still nothing tremendous in the ring and I needed more funny shit to put this kind of match on the set.

Massacre/MS1/Espectro Jr. vs. Siglo XX/Mogur (w/ Mask)/Stuka

Stuka takes a big bump to the floor before the match starts, and then spends the rest of the first fall bamboozling the heels with spectacular spots. The rudos are a lot of fun getting bamboozled, especially Espectro being run off briefly and MS1 faceplanting on the apron. The rest of the match isn't quite as exciting to me. I actually thought Espectro looked kinda bad. What was that jumping kick thing supposed to be? A dropkick? A spinning heel kick without the spin? Did he have to do it more than once? His teammates picked up the slack, though. This is really borderline for me. I'm gonna second it as a low-end nom just to keep it in play, but it probably won't make the final cut.

I enjoyed the comedy stuff from Rayo and Cochisse, but this didn't leave a huge impression on me.

What Phil and Tom said. If this is one match, it's a slam dunk nomination. If it's three matches, it's probably an extra. I don't know what the correct way of looking at it is, but for whatever it's worth, this felt a lot like the gauntlet matches on the New Japan set, in that the story they were telling seemed very clearly meant to be told over the course of the entire tournament, with the individual matches within it being used to move that story along rather than tell stories of their own. I don't know if that's really evidence of how we're officially supposed to break these down (or not break them down, as the case may be) as matches, but it does seem to suggest they were intended to be seen as a singular "event" the way most individual matches are. Take that for what you will.

Espectro Jr./Masakre/MS-1 vs. Mogur/Siglo XX/Stuka (4/18/87)

Fun seeing this quasi Infernales team here. Stuka's bump to start was great and it was just as great watching him get his revenge on them later in the fall by making them look foolish. Masakre & MS-1 looked really good as a team in the 2nd fall getting revenge while Espectro had his moments. The 3rd fall was fine although nothing really special happens although there is a brief row your boat spot. This didn't do enough for me to warrant a nomination.

Rayo de Jalisco Jr./Tony Salazar/Super Halcon Jr. vs. Gran Cochise/Mascara Ano Dos Mil/Universo Dos Mil (4/18/87)

More comedy than anything else which was fine for what it was and there was the Rayo/Super Halcon beef going on but not nomination material.

Cuadrangular de Trios: Los Infernales (Masakre/MS-1/Satanico) vs. Alfonso Dantes/Mogur/Tony Salazar vs. Atlantis/Javier Llanes/Cachorro Mendoza vs. Tony Benetto/Hombre Bala/Talisman (April 1987)

Lots of stuff going on here as you have two semifinals matches and a finals match where everyone across the board really looked good here. I really dug the Dantes/Satanico exchanges in the finals which was a fun contrast to the other Infernales match with the Atlantis trio which was more athletic. Infernales yet again were awesome here and this will be a great match for people to see how a cuadrangular style match works. Easy nomination.
