Posted July 20, 201015 yr comment_5453358 After a great Jumbo-Tenry exchange at the bell, they took a few minutes to get rolling. But even when they lacked focus, they beat the shit out of each other. Tenryu and Hara eventually focused their attack on Jumbo's leg. Despite the damage, he refused to stop using his high knee and paid a higher and higher price for his will/hubris as the match went on. His selling of pain/determination was pretty great. The ending was dramatic, with Jumbo hitting big move after big move and Tenryu staggering to his feet every time. The crowd went nuts when Tenryu reversed a roll-up to get his first clean pin on Jumbo. This was a Jumbo-Tenryu match, but the other guys deserve mention as well for the sheer amount of punishment they took and dished out in supporting roles. This is a slam dunk pick. 1988 All Japan TV Disc 19
September 20, 201015 yr comment_5456035 Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara vs. Jumbo Tsuruta/Yoshiaki Yatsu (29:51 complete) 9/4/88 (taped 8/29/88 ) - Early on, Hara focuses on the headlock on Yatsu. When Yatsu tags in Jumbo responds in kind and lets him know how it feels. However, we get the saves usually reserved for late in the match early on here as the team mates don’t allow any extended submissions or heat segments. The double teams are solid as both of these teams are at the top of their game. Early on, Jumbo’s team delivers the double knee. Then we have the sick double lariat from Tenryu and Hara. Later on, Jumbo plays Native in Peril. Hara and Tenryu give a non-stop assault and Jumbo can’t catch a break (Jumbo going for the knee only to get caught in a single crab). Yatsu finally gets in, then he tags Jumbo in shortly after. Made no sense. Great moment where Yatsu gets taken out outside, Jumbo fights back, goes for the tag but Yatsu isn’t in the corner. When Yatsu finally gets the tag, He goes nuts and the end is hot as ever with Tneryu pulling out the small package win over Jumbo. This was the right result on the right guy. Great tag and somewhere up in my Top 20.

These guys have said just about everything that needs to be said for this one as it was just a tremendous hate filled match with a fantastic stretch run leading to the finish that was one of the most satisfying finishes on this whole set. Grand slam nomination.
