Posted July 23, 201015 yr comment_5453477 Mikey Whipwreck v. Devon Storm I have always been a mark for Devon Storm from this period as he's sort of the personification of goofball, over the top, flippy indy guy and I'm a huge mark for Mikey so I did enjoy this. Mikey works underneath here and gets pounded on a lot, but we also get a super reckless twisting moonsault to the floor from him. Spot of the match is Storm hitting his tope con hilo on Mikey who is sitting in a chair that wipes both guys out. This is pretty well structured, but I don't think it's nomination worthy. Louie Spicolli v. Johnny Smith Got a vote or two in the poll. Rewatched it because it was outside of the 100 and this really isn't very good. Just back and fourth exchange of moves. No different than a typical TNA match today. D-Von Dudley v. Axl Rotten Nothing match (literally), though Bubba's post match tope is pretty insane. Sandman v. Stevie Richards I actually liked the narrative they had going here a lot as pre-match Raven says his foot is broken and he can't wrestle and then Todd Gordon let's Stevie announce that he's signed to defend for Raven which of course leads to Raven flipping and beating his ass which of course leads to Sandman coming in which of course leads to a cheap Steviekick from behind to start the match for a good nearfall and that sort of sets the pace for the whole thing. As overbooked clusterfucks go this is better than virtually any WWE attitude main event though that is admittedly setting the bar really low. I also liked the schtick with Meanie "accidentally" hitting finishers on Stevie for nearfalls as the whole "Raven's inept flock may cost him his title" is the whole theme of the match (Nova's legdrop spot is utterly stupid however). Match really falls apart with run-in's at the end, and though i am a mark for loaded boot gimmicks, the finish sucked here. Just short of being nomination worthy, but worth watching. Too Cold Scorpio v. Chris Jericho This is not without it's flaws. Match has some really sloppy moments and some awkward communication on a key spot down the stretch. It is way to back and fourth for my taste at times as well. But I really liked the opening mat exchanges as they were very different for U.S. wrestling from that period. I also really liked Scorp's control segment which was deliberately paced, but featured him nearly taking Jericho's head off with a few kicks. It also made the inevitable back and fourth segment more tolerable as it was built to more than usual for an ECW match. Couple of crazy floor bumps in this, a Jericho diving dropkick to the floor, and perfectly executed sunset flip powerbomb, and an awesome Scorp shooting star for a decisive finish. Low end nomination. Pitbull 2 v. Shane Douglas This was not as horrid as I would have guessed. Match is built around epic Pitbull blade job and while it is tedious it's not bad wrestling. Watching both of these guys covered in blood and the filth from the ECW Arena floor makes you wonder how everyone in the company didn't die of staph. Brian Lee/Taz v. Steve Williams/Tommy Dreamer This was fun for what it was. Match was kept really short and you could tell Doc didnt' give a shit, though I don't think it's fair to say he phoned it in. Crowd was uber hot and Dreamer almost killed himself. I could see this as an extra, since Doc in the Arena still seems surreal to me, but he was a lot better in his singles match with Raven (though that match had a shitty finish). Samoan Gangsta Party v. Eliminators v. Gangstas v. Bruise Brothers Typical Gangstas brawl with plunder and meandering around and blah. Not good. RVD v. Sabu (Stretcher Match) Didn't rewatch this because it finished in the top 40 of SC poll. For the record I think their series was pretty shitty.
