I was a bit disappointed with this because had Spike's really great FIP segment been longer it would have been a total homerun, but this was still a really good match. I really dug Kroffat being utterly shocked by Spike and Mikey's early double team offense and thought his heel banter with the crowd was the most I'd ever seen out of him in that regard. The real star of this was Spike who by this point had surpassed Mikey as the ultimate ragdoll in wrestling. He gets crazy air on all of his bumps here, takes a nasty Razor's Edge that covers the length of the ring, eats two perfect Furnas dropkicks, et. Spot of the match is Furnas tying up Spike in a Boston Crab, Spike rolling forward and Furnas going straight into a Giant Swing. I thought the Mikey hot tag was too early, but he was a great house of fire, they hit a really sweet assisted top rope dropkick spot, and the transition to the finish with the Can Ams getting the duke off of a top rope Hart Attack type move was really good.

Dylan hit the highlights so I guess I'll throw a few comments out there. My opinion may be a little skewed but I have been watching 1989 Kroffat/Furnas for the last 2 months so I wasn't feeling this match as much as you. I enjoyed it but I don't think it is high-end Can Ams. Agreed totally about Spike and this is another match where I see his stock going up... almost enitrely on the bassis of being a personal punching bag for whoever he faces. I thought the Spike FIP section was fine. I actually thought there should have been more give and take. For the time they were given, I'll back this as a nomination but I wasn't as high on it as you were.

I'll say flat out that I agree with you that this wasn't a top Can Ams match or even close to it. Having said that I sorta thought the Can Ams sucked in the states. I remember the majority of their ECW matches being spot heavy affairs with shitty teams (I guess we'll see if that turns out to be true) and they were buried as colorless losers in the WWF. This is the best Can Ams in the States match I can remember seeing offhand

The Can-Am Express (Doug Furnas & Phil LaFon) vs. Spike Dudley & Mikey Whipwreck (10/17/97)

Spike & Mikey is one of the ultimate FIP teams so this should be good. They come out strong to start the match angering the Can-Ams so of course they take it out on Spike who as usual was great as the punching bag. Mikey would come in a house of fire hitting his big moves leading to a fun stretch run where the faces use some good double teams and counters to the have the Can-Ams reeling until it backfires for the finish. This was a good match but I think it falls short of a nomination.
