DVD #21

9/27/87

1. Toshiaki Kawada vs. Masa Fuchi (8:18 of 15:51 shown) - Reviewd on Classics.

2. Jumbo Tsuruta/Great Kabuki vs. Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara (15:30 of 18:10 shown) - They did a lot of the stuff you'd want to see from this match-up. Kabuki took a horrid beating from Tenryu and Hara. Jumbo showed a lot of fire in going after Tenryu and trying to save his partner. But this ended up as a perfect example of the great set-up with no payoff as Tenryu and Hara got DQed for refusing to cease their double team whipping of Kabuki. With a hot tag and a comeback, it probably would've turned into a nomination.

3. Hiroshi Wajima vs. Stan Hansen (10:24 complete) - Reviewed on Classics.

1. Hiroshi Wajima/Takashi Ishikawa vs. Tiger Jeet Singh/Weingroff (7:31 complete) - This was horrid.

2. Genichiro Tenryu/Toshiaki Kawada vs. Shinnichi Nakano/Isamu Teranishi (8:35 complete) - This consisted mostly of Kawada taking his licks and showing spunk in fighting back. Then, Tenryu (kind of George Clooney in a high school play among this company) came in to finish it with a powerbomb.

3. Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Ashura Hara (17:20 complete) - I wanted to like this more. They hit each other really hard, with Hara trying to show he could stand up to Jumbo. And I liked the finish, with Jumbo pouncing off the ropes to hit a Thesz press after the double lariat spot. But I didn't get any sense of flow or emotion between them. Hara went through the motions of trying to prove himself against the ace but didn't convey any of the desperation. And the crowd did not respond at all. Maybe Hara just didn't have it as a singles guy.
