DVD #7

3/19/88 (taped 3/8, 3/11/88 )

Footloose (Kawada/Fuyuki) vs. Mighty Inoue/Takashi Ishikawa (9:24 of 17:41 aired) - It's a shame so much of this was clipped, because it was a hot match with a charged-up crowd. I liked the from-the-turnbuckle camera angle used for some of the big moves. Kawada's missile dropkick looked great from that vantage. Ishikawa was on fire here, flying around and absolutely drilling the youngsters. I can't nominate a match when the whole first half is missing, but this could be an extra.

John Tenta/Shunji Takano vs. Stan Hansen/Terry Gordy (5:15 complete) - Squash.

Jumbo Tsuruta/Great Kabuki/Takashi Ishikawa vs. Ashura Hara/Footloose (18:51 complete) - Hara blasted Jumbo with a short lariat early and Jumbo responded with a Hammer-of-the-Gods lariat that about put Hara through the mat. Shit was on from there. I loved Footloose's early attempts to chop down Jumbo and Jumbo's angry reprisals. His twin high knees on Fuyuki made me gasp. I loved Fuyuki's stretch as the whipping boy and the fact that Footloose was actually able to stagger Jumbo with their double team moves down the stretch. There were a ton of holy shit blows, the crowd got way into it, they went to a clean finish. Basically, this match ruled. Nomination.

3/26/88 (taped 3/26/88 )

Great Kabuki/Isamu Teranishi vs. Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara (6:35 complete) - Hansen attacked Tenryu at ringside before and then during the match. Kabuki and Teranishi used the advantage to control most of the way but eventually, Tenryu took out his hostility on Teranishi.

Hiroshi Wajima/Isao Takagi vs. Tiger Jeet Singh/Abby (3:02 complete) - Nothing to see here.

Yoshiaki Yatsu/Takashi Ishikawa vs. Tommy Rich/Austin Idol (7:26 complete) - Rich and Idol made a strange fit for All-Japan. They didn't really work stiff enough to make an impression on the crowd and didn't compensate with the character touches I would've expected. So they just came off as bland guys with bleached hair and interesting tights (in Idol's case). We know they were capable of more, but it didn't translate.

Jumbo Tsuruta/John Tenta vs. Bruiser Brody/Big Bubba (6:35 of 10:14 aired) - Reviewed on Classics.
