Posted August 10, 201015 yr comment_5454279 DVD #14 6/26/88 (taped 6/2/88 ) Dan Spivey vs. Shunji Takano (9:03 complete) - This was more stilted and boring than actively shitty. Spivey's lariat-DDT combo looked pretty devastating, but then they went to a nonsensical double countout. Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara vs. Yoshiaki Yatsu/Takashi Ishikawa (12:08 complete) - Yatsu and Ishikawa went after Tenryu's leg, a nice change of pace after all the Tenryu-Hara torture fests. But they didn't take it far enough, and Tenryu and Hara isolated Ishikawa for an easy pin. Pedestrian stuff. Jumbo Tsuruta/Hiroshi Wajima vs. Tiger Jeet Singh/Jesse Barr (9:53 complete) - What really sucked about Singh was his need to control the action and nature of the match. I can't believe how many times I've had to watch him do the same routine over the last few months. 7/3/88 (taped 7/2/88 ) Great Kabuki/Hiroshi Wajima vs. A. Sheik/Mitch Snow (9:08 complete) - Snow actually looked decent, but Sheik made the crowd giggle with some ugly botches. Kabuki basically gave them all the offense in the match before he and Wajima went on a little run to take the fall. Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara vs. Tiger Mask/Akira Taue (12:23 complete) - Tenryu gave Taue the full rite-of-passage beating, complete with chops to the face, reckless lariat and kicks to the spine. But Misawa really gave it back, laying in all of his kicks and hitting Hara with a swank springboard headbutt off the guard rail. He even set Taue up for a nearfall on Tenryu before Tenryu regained his bearings and submitted the youngster. Fun match and we don't have any Taue, so I'll give it a basement-level nomination in the interest of casting a wide net. Stan Hansen vs. Shunji Takano (3:54 complete) - Squash. Jumbo Tsuruta/Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Terry Gordy/Leo Burke (9:00 complete) - Yet another forgettable tag. Gordy had his way with Yatsu but I never for a second doubted that Jumbo would eat Burke alive when he got tired of being out there.
