DVD #16

7/24/88 (taped 7/19/88 )

Bruiser Brody clips

Footloose vs. Nakano/Takano (7:55 of 15:45 aired) - Reviewed on Classics.

Stan Hansen vs. Isao Takagi (4:21 complete) - Squash.

Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara vs. Hiroshi Wajima/Takashi Ishikawa (7:28 of 20:41 complete) - Too much of a clip for the match to be considered. The finishing stretch was fun, with Ishikawa bleeding and Tenryu actually showing some vulnerability.

Jumbo Tsuruta/Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Terry Gordy/A. Sheik (9:37 complete) - Gordy seemed to be getting a mini-push on this tour. He attacked at the bell and held the advantage on Jumbo and Yatsu for much of the match. It is striking to watch '88 Gordy back-to-back with '83 Gordy; he had already lost a lot of agility. I'm rambling. The amtchw asn't anything special.

7/31/88 (taped 7/26/88 )

Masa Fuchi vs. Shinnichi Nakano (10:00 of 17:08 aired) - JIP with Fuchi working Nakano's arm. That flowed in to a nicely worked stretch of counters, suplexes and roll-ups for nearfalls. Too much of a clip for the match to get consideration, but I enjoyed what was shown.

Stan Hansen/Leo Burke vs. Tiger Mask/Isao Takagi (11:20 complete) - The most interesting stuff featured Misawa trying to stand up to Hansen, who refused to be slowed for long. Burke was pretty boring and really didn't fit with Stan. Nothing special here.

Jumbo Tsuruta/Hiroshi Wajima vs. Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara (15:06 complete) - Hansen attacked Tenryu before the bell, and Wajima eagerly embraced the rare opportunity to dominate his chief tormentor. He and Jumbo seemed intent to bust Tenryu open but couldn't get the blood flowing despite five minutes of head butting and forehead punching. I liked Wajima running in to cut off Tenryu whenever he got close to tagging Hara. The match lost focus after Tenryu tagged out. I thought they should've stuck with the idea of him being unusually vulnerable because of Hansen. The finish saw Jumbo and Wajima stomping Hara's eye until Tenryu rushed in with a chair to earn a DQ. We have too much good stuff from these guys for this to draw consdieration.
