Posted August 13, 201015 yr comment_5454423 DVD #24 11/20/88 (taped 11/19/88 ) John Tenta/Shunji Takano vs. Stan Hansen/Terry Gordy (11:08 complete) - I was surprised how evenly they worked this. It ended on a classic, out-of-nowhere lariat from Hansen, but the match didn't leave a strong impression overall. Jumbo Tsuruta/Yoshikai Yatsu vs. Jerry Blackwell/Phil Hickerson (6:55 complete) - Fun match with the Japanese bouncing off the fat Americans most of the way. Blackwell, especially, came off as quite a force. Unfortunately, once Yatsu rallied against Hickerson, they wrapped it up in a hurry. With a little more back and forth, this could have earned a nomination. Abby/Tiger Jeet Singh vs. Genichiro Tenryu/Toshiaki Kawada (7:31 complete) - I don't mind Singh so much when he's getting chopped in the face by Tenryu or kicked in the throat by Kawada. In fact his schtick would have worked a lot better in general if he had faced more retaliation from nasty fuckers like them. I really enjoyed this overall. Singh and Abby started out mauling Tenryu, and the crowd really got behind him as he rallied. But Kawada proved to be his Achilles heel, unable to sustain an advantage on Abby. Some of Abby's cutoff shots on Kawada looked great and his elbow drop (with Tenryu distracted by beating on Singh) felt like an appropriate ending. I hate to do this to you Will, but I'm pulling the trigger on another match involving Tiger Jeet. Nomination 11/27/88 (taped 11/21/88 ) Genichiro Tenryu/Toshiaki Kawada vs. Tiger Mask/Jimmy Snuka (7:54 of 12:47 aired) - Some good Misawa vs. Kawada stuff but not a standout match. Abby/Tiger Jeet Singh vs. Tommy Rich/Dick Slater (7:11 of 12:30 aired) I enjoyed Rich and Slater taking on the babyface roles because they were the less dirty team. At one point, Abby and Singh were both choking Slater and Rich took them both out with a reckless looking dropkick. Cool moment. The clip cost it more serious consideration, but this was a fun bit of chaos. Jumbo Tsuruta/Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Stan Hansen/Terry Gordy (19:50 of 30:00 aired) - I liked the mid-match exchange of power moves between Gordy and Yatsu, and Jumbo and Yatsu put together a terrific section of legwork on Hansen. But 10 minutes is a big clip and there were moments of obvious padding to get to the time limit. No vote.
