Posted August 19, 201015 yr comment_5454668 Great Sasuke v. Tiger Mask IV You feel bad for these guys as the crowd shits all over this despite the fact that they actually put together a well structured decent match. This is what happens when you condition your crowd to expect non-stop spots from any foreigner on you roster, though Sasuke did hit a nice hilo. Credible/Jason show up to taunt Sasuke at the finish. Okay. Adam Flash v. Paul Diamond They botch a spot a bit earlier which leads to the stupid ass crowd chant. This appears to legitimately piss Diamond off and Flash ends up taking a dangerous backflip bump off of a lariat. The match basically goes forward like this from there with Flash taking dangerous risk and Diamond wrestling like Scott Steiner. Match did not click really but there were parts of it that were very fun and visually impressive. Chris Chetti/Jerry Lynn v. Phil Lafon/Doug Furnas Lafon/Furnas worked a fairly traditional tag here which I liked but Chetti/Lynn really fucking suck. I did like Furnas crushing a weak babyface comeback with an overhead, but this is the worst Lynn has looked so far and Chetti sucks. Too bad because the Can Ams were "on." Justin Credible v. Nova This lasted like two seconds, though Nicole Bass ganzo bombing Billy Wiles pre-match was pretty sick and something of a "must see" moment. Al Snow v. Lance Storm This started off surprisingly decent and spirited and then it just went on and on. To be honest this probably wasn't THAT long but neither one of these guys is good enough to sustain quality for more than a couple of minutes so we got a solid opening exchange and then goes doing "stuff" for what seemed like an eternity. FBI v. Balls Mahoney/Axl Rotten/Tommy Dreamer This is a six-man tag with Tommy Rich wrestling and the opening Rich mic work is awesome. Rich gets on the stick and claims that "last week in Dallas" they beat the Von Erichs for the six-man titles. Then he says they went to Atlanta and beat the Freebirds. He starts to say something off and Smothers cuts him off and claims just "two days ago we defended those belts against the Road Warriors and Dusty Rhodes!" Then Rich gets back on the mic and says that Gordon Solie sent them a telegram telling them they were the best in the World as Smothers walks by saying "Gordon knows everything!" Shit like that is the real genius of the Rich/Smothers era FBI gimmick as it is not two Southern guys who think they are Italian, but two unreconstructed rednecks who are satirizing a predominantly yankee ethnic culture and using Guido as a cloak of authenticity for their bullshit. Guido is awesome early in this working lots of schtick with Dreamer early, before going into a surprisingly quality criss cross sequence with Axl of all people. When Smothers gets in with Balls they work some good exchanges to including some ridiculous Tracy overbumping which leads to a spot where he tries to tag in Rich who turns his back and walks away to jaw with some fans. Then the god damn Pitbulls/evil ref/blah run-in and ruin the god damn match with their bullshit. Really is a shame because the first part of this was awesome. Taz v. Sabu This was a real brutal match. They start out of the gate laying in blows and just never stop. The crowd brawling and table spots in this came across really intense and at one point Taz looks like he caves in Sabu's sternum with a suplex. Bottom line this looked like a real fight in large parts. What kills this match is the selling and the length. This just has no fucking business going to a draw. There are big parts of this where both guys are visibly gassed and rolling around trading weak pinfall attempts or doing double clothesline "knockout" spots because they have no clue what else to do. Early in the match they actually did some really cool shit with Sabu and Taz going back and fourth attacking bodyparts but it goes nowhere even though Taz sort of inconsistently sells his knee throughout. A fifteen minute match probably would have been aces but these guys couldn't fill the time and it kills any chance of nomination this had. D-Von Dudley/Bubba Dudley v. New Jack/Spike Dudley I usually like Gertner, but his pre-match biting of Rich's six-man tag champs schtick was sort of stupid. Having said that Sign Guy threatening to "jizz all over" a ringside fans "titties" did get a chuckle out of me. This was actually a pretty good match considering who was involved. "Natural Born Killaz" was playing but this wasn't a typical New Jack match as the prop use was virtually non-existent. Jack juiced off of punches of all things, D-Von took a stairwell bump and everytime they panned to Spike he was doing something cool. Better than expected. Rob Van Dam v. The Sandman This started off a reasonably fun, hard hitting spotfest and descended into utter shit after a Sabu run-in. Ugh.
