I almost nominated their Cookeville match, but Kanemura badly fucked up a key spot during the stretch run so I decided against it. This is Tanaka's only successful title defense so ought to be an extra anyhow, but it holds up on it's own merits. This is the same sort of crazy sprint as the first match, particularly the first five minutes or so which is just big spot after big spot. Kanemura takes another tornado DDT on the floor, gets launched onto some dude in the first row and gets hurled through a table off a blocked senton attempt. When they go back to the ring he takes over and they actually give Kanemura an extended control segment which includes him taunting the fans and generally beating the piss out of Tanaka. Tanaka takes one bump onto a chair that is horrifying and Kanemura hits the fat man senton for a good nearfall. Finish almost seems abrupt given what these guys have taken, but I still feel like this is something that should make the set.

+Kintaro Kanemura v. Masato Tanaka Solid Nomination - FanCam 12-18-99

- Man, these are two guys I really have been digging. The tornado DDT on the outside from Tanaka looked good. Initially, I thought KK was taking forever to set up the table spot until it paid off with Tanaka putting him through it. After KK takes control with a kick to the nuts, he is fantastic, mocking Tanaka and playing to the crowd. Seriously, Kanemura is really playing it up including a very casual pin attempt. He relies too much on showing off so Tanaka is able to make a comeback dropping KK with all of his token big moves. Tanaka ends it with the Diamond Dust and again, another match, another nomination.

ECW World Heavyweight Title: Masato Tanaka © vs. Kintaro Kanemura (12/18/99)

This was great fun as you had all the weapons you would expect from these two plus some really good hard hitting action and I loved Kanemura being a total dick here when he was in control. Tanaka would comeback and we got all the big spots before the finish and this moves forward easily.
