Mikey Whipwreck God damn this is one botched spot and a slightly more compelling finish away from being one of the five best matches in the history of ECW. I am a huge fan of their match from Feb. of 95 and this one is on that same level. Douglas comes out early cocky and pays for with a big offensive flurry from Mikey who punches his lights out, hits his reckless offense, et. Shane takes over and pummels Mikey and Mikey bumps his fucking ass off diving into the railing and generally eating everything Douglas throws like it could be the death blow. Douglas gets caught with DDT for a nearfall and then Mikey unloads with dropkicks and splashes and you start to think he's got a serious shot of lifting the belt. Then out of nowhere Douglas drops him with a scarily stiff tombstone. This was during the period where he broke Pitbull's neck so he locks on a full nelson but instead of going for the three arm drop win he lets go and pins him with a belly-to-belly. Finish was a little flat (probably should have ended at the tombstone) and Douglas missed a baseball slide spot pretty badly which was supposed to be a cut off as Mikey chased Francine around the ring, but other than that this was a tre-fuckin-mendous match and a great testament to both guys. Taz v. Roadkill God damn Roadkill is young as fuck here. Taz destroys him but it was a pretty fun little squash while it lasted. Louie Spicolli/Hack Myers v. Bad Crew I have an irrational love of Bad Crew as they are two homeless looking dudes who will take a series asskicking if called upon to do so. Shah in peril after getting his blows in early. Hack is good in this role and watching Bad Crew hit flip dives and Hart Attack clotheslines on him is pretty god damn ridiculous. Spicolli hot tag was sort of underwhelming but the Shah coming back in and beating down the poor mans Nasty Boys to set up the double DVD's was pretty sweet. Fun. Axl Rotten v. New Jack The early part of this is actually pretty good as they are stiffing the shit out of each other, including a really vicious clothesline from New Jack. Jack wins and post-match D-Von comes down and jumps Jack which brings out Big Dick and it's all kind of a clusterfuck. Spike Dudley/Bubba Dudley v. Eliminators There was some really great shit in this, like Spike flying into walls, Bubba doing an awesome job selling a Kronus kick to the face, the entire brawling and diving segment on the stage, guys getting thrown through what looks suspiciously like crime scene tape, et. Spike takes an epic asskicking in this and every time he gets a comeback spot in it's like a fit of rage takes over and it looks like he's gonna make it and he's just shut down. What really stands out here is the length of the FIP segment which is abnormally long by ECW standards. I kind of thing this fell apart at the hot tag a little though I did think Spike's double stomp saving a pin fall attempt ws pretty cool. He also took the Total Elimination well. This probably deserves a second set of eyes at least. Devon Storm v. Doug Furnas Pre-match a fan bust Storm wide open and he has a sick cut. I'll give Storm credit - he still bumps his ass off here. Pitbull 2 v. Sammy Slick Samu was stiff and this was kept short so I wasn't appalled by it. Post-match Douglas sends bounty hunters down to attack Douglas and they include Meanie and Nova and J.T. Smith who is hilarious trying to negotiate a deal and then suckering Pitbull before getting demolished. Too Cold Scorpio v. Sabu The pacing really hurt this one as it was a lot of bomb throwing but done at this strangely methodical pace. Sabu was kind of off and out of place on a lot of stuff early as well though there weren't any real botches. On the other hand the table spot in this was one of the best I've ever seen as Sabu gets kicked into the face and falls back onto the table with Scorp falling through with an immediate plancha crushing him. Also, I did love the slugfest spots in this as they were really hammering each other, but by and large I thought this was really disappointing. Tommy Dreamer v. Brian Lee (Cage Match) Before they make it to the Cage they brawl all over the Arena and outside of the Arena. I always sort of liked this feud because the brawling was so ridiculous and here we get the men in the ladies rest room bit. In the Cage Nova and Meanie crowd surf a table to Lee. From that point forward this sort of falls apart but the early going was fun at least. Steve Richards v. Sandman (Cage Match) Pre-match Richards says when he wins Raven will be his lackey. meanie and Nova are in the Cage and the story is basically that Sandman keeps getting distracted by them leading to Richards nearfalls. I will grant that the premise here is ridiculous but it actually does work better in practice than it sounds on paper. Match is short but was fun.
