God damn this is one botched spot and a slightly more compelling finish away from being one of the five best matches in the history of ECW. I am a huge fan of their match from Feb. of 95 and this one is on that same level. Douglas comes out early cocky and pays for with a big offensive flurry from Mikey who punches his lights out, hits his reckless offense, et. Shane takes over and pummels Mikey and Mikey bumps his fucking ass off diving into the railing and generally eating everything Douglas throws like it could be the death blow. Douglas gets caught with DDT for a nearfall and then Mikey unloads with dropkicks and splashes and you start to think he's got a serious shot of lifting the belt. Then out of nowhere Douglas drops him with a scarily stiff tombstone. This was during the period where he broke Pitbull's neck so he locks on a full nelson but instead of going for the three arm drop win he lets go and pins him with a belly-to-belly. Finish was a little flat (probably should have ended at the tombstone) and Douglas missed a baseball slide spot pretty badly which was supposed to be a cut off as Mikey chased Francine around the ring, but other than that this was a tre-fuckin-mendous match and a great testament to both guys.

Shane Douglas v. Mikey Whipwreck Easy Nomination - FanCam 10-18-96 (Disc One)

- I was surprised to see Mikey take so much control early on, clearly focusing on the neck and do some cool shit like the choking, counter DDT, reverse Mutoh death lock. Sahne counters with a neck breaker and now Shane is working on Mikey’s neck. Right on. Awesome sot with MIkey outside on the apron facing the fans and getting dropkicked off and landing throat first on the rail. Sweet. I could have done without the chair spot and Mikey kicking out. However. It did kickstart a nice but brief stretch run with Mikey trying to take Shane out in desperation. Shane turns the tables and catches Mikey with a tombstone and then hooks on a full nelson. Wow! He mercifully ends it with a belly-to-belly. Really good match here and easy nomination.

"The Franchise" Shane Douglas vs. Mikey Whipwreck (10/18/96)

Pitbull II had to be removed from ringside before the match which pissed off Douglas so he took it out on Mikey but Mikey would soon start giving it to Shane and really looked good on offense. Shane then took over but he really fucked up a sliding dropkick through the ropes as he just bounced off the ropes and back in the ring which really pissed him off. The back and forth action continued until Shane just buried Mikey with a Tombstone but didn't finish him off until putting on a full-nelson then a belly-to-belly which was a little much. This was a very good match and moves forward easily.
