Posted August 23, 201015 yr comment_5454892 Tommy Dreamer/Spike Dudley v. FBI This was supposed to be Chetti and Spike v. FBI, but pre-match Tommy Rich grabs the mic after Chetti is announced as the Rookie and says that Gordon Solie just told him he was rookie of the year and they proceed to beat the fucking shit out of Chetti and Spike. Chetti gets mauled to the point where the locker room empties with even Joey Styles coming out to help carry him back. Then Rich grabs the mic and says the ref has to raise their hands because of everyone is booked and Spike can't work alone. Spike goes and gets Dreamer and after a ring announcer tries to bar Dreamer from wrestling via medical orders and ends up taking a DDT the mach gets under way with Guido getting his ass bumped around early by Dreamer. Dreamer had a bum foot at this point and Rich trips him off a rope running spot leading to his leg getting beat up to all hell by the FBI. They really do a great job control him and working over his leg and there is also an awesome spot where he fights to his feet and Tracy drops him with a Jake Roberts level DDT. Smothers is just awesome working over Dreamer here as every time he gets close to a vertical position he kicks out Tommy's legs or pummels him with nasty punches or both. After some great teases Tommy finally gets the hot tag off of a Smothers "mistake" and Spike comes in and just cleans house with a ton of big time offense. They do a really cool false finish where Dreamer hits the DDT but rich puts Guido's bottom foot on the rope and they end up with a restart with Guido clipping Dreamer for a nearfall before the inevitable acid drop finish. This was awesome shit from the moment Rich opened his mouth until the finish. Pablo Marquez v. Paul Diamond (EXTRA) They work a couple of really cool rope running spots and then the next thing you know you are looking at fucking RF tapes for a few seconds and then the camera wades back to the ring. When they come back to the ring Marquez and Diamond are having a really fun sprint and just leveling each other with bumps. Diamond wipes him out with a floatover DDT and the rolling samoan drop and Marquez fires back with a brutal looking springboard huracanrana. This was just fun stuff with a solid, simple and effective finish. I wish we hadn't lost the middle portion of this because what was here was good and I'd like to see Marquez pop up on the set at least once. Shane Douglas v. Bam Bam Bigelow Man the pre-match goes on forever with Rick Rude coming and be accused of fucking every member of DX by the crowd amongst other things. Shane feigning shock at Bammer being willing to junk the Triple Threat forever was pretty funny. I really liked Shane in this as he bumped huge off of Bigelow's press slams and sold his ass off after everything, including the spot where he suplexed Bigelow and acted like he tore every muscle in his back in the process. This was too rushed to be a great match but I enjoyed it while it lasted. Great Sasuke v. Justin Credible I really didn't care for this. It wasn't awful, but Credible working workrate parity matches with Sasuke is not good booking or a good use of either guys talents. I will grant that both Sasuke's big highspots were incredible but that's pretty much the only thing from this match that stands out at all. Sabu v. Mikey Whipwreck This started out with some decent matwork and then just became a balls to the wall spotfest albeit a really fun one. I really loved the spot with Mikey standing on the stradled table and pelting Sabu with a chair to block the DDT attempt. In fact the table spot was well built to and teased but the camera went dead right before the payoff and the next shot has Mikey and RVD laying in a heap with Sabu moonsault onto them and a broken table so it's hard to discern what the hell happened. The guillotine moonsault finish was surprisingly cool looking and well timed as well. Anyhow this was cool for what it was. Rob Van Dam v. Al Snow Some of the early Snow offensive looked pretty vicious and on point and Rob was really working to put it over. This fell apart quickly after that though and became RVD at his worst with tons of senseless spots, a Sabu run in, Fonzy BS, et. Blah Chris Candido v. Taz This match would have been a thousand times better if Taz didn't sandbag Candido on every nearfall by kicking out in the most cavalier and dismissive way possible. The story of the match was pretty decent, there was some nasty stiffness, Taz gave Candido a lot, and I liked the finish a good bit with Candido getting caught with a Tazmission as a near act of desperation by Taz. But fuck Taz's shitty selling. D-Von Dudley/Bubba Dudley v. Axl Rotten/Balls Mahoney v. John Kronus/New Jack This is another one that is JIP and just in time for New Jack?Kronus run-in that was inevitable. This was actually a super entertaining clusterfuck with some nice brawling exchanges with New Jack, Dick Dudley of all people taking a crazy bump onto the guardrail/into the crowd and Kronus nearly killing himself on the finish. Fun.
