Chris Chetti v. Danny Doring

Another show I attended live!

This was an amazingly competent match. Yes Chetti fucked up a neckbreaker but most of the rest of this stuff was hit clean and there were a few generally cool things in this. Really liked slugfest spot in this and I enjoyed Doring's pearl harbor running knee as well. I also really liked the fact that Chetti had to hit two big springboard spots to put Doring away. Almost worth nominating because of how big of a miracle this was.

Kevin Northcutt/Roadkill v. Super Nova/Blue Meanie

I thought this was a pretty decent basic tag. Nova's "whoopee" dive with Meanie holding the rope always seems to lead to Nova getting his asskicked which is strange but usually works out okay. Nova FIP is better than normal here because his comebacks aren't shitty looking indy trash spots. Meanie and Nova win with the double splashes.

Bam Bam Bigelow v. Chris Walker

Another good basic match. Bigelow cutting off Walker with a powerbomb was a cool spot. Loved the finish as the transition to the Greetings From Asbury Park was really well done.

Jerry Lynn v. Mikey Whipwreck

God damn Lynn's rana that ends the opening exchange looks nasty as fuck as Mikey bends in a really awkward fashion on the way down. Actually everything in this looks nasty as fuck. These guys are stiffing each other with clotheslines, spike DDT's, et. Lynn's dive looked really brutal too. Was kind of surprised to see Mikey's stunner not be the finish. Nearfalls were good looking though I thought Lynn's selling was really weak. Finish was pretty awesome with a slingshot suplex turned into a brutal DDT that plants Mikey for an easy three count. I liked this a good bit.

Sammy Solo/Tommy Rogers v. FBI

Opening exchanges with Guido and Solo were a lot of fun as they worked some slick mat counters and throws and I really thought Guido's Boston Crab looked pretty brutal. Rich's mic work is almost totally inaudible which is too bad because he works the crowd into a frenzy during the stalling spots. Really liked Solo's highspot comeback being cut off by a Guido armdrag straight into an armbar and Smothers doing his mock karate spot and getting hit with a dropkick was cool as always. Man Solo's shit does not look good at all but FBI are so great at bumping and selling for it that you don't give a shit. Rogers and Smothers face off spot was great and the run with the big spots on the floor was fucking awesome, especially Rich fleeing from Rogers after Rich dropped Solo on his throat. Smothers three point stance clothesline and Solo's subsequent 360 bump was really great. God damn Solo takes some cool shit including a nasty back elbow and a double boot from Smothers. FIP was a bit short but Smothers was a really good house of fire. Finish was a bit fucked up as Tommy hits the Tomakazie and Solo hits a botched standing shooting star which Rich breaks up with a top rope chain spot. Still I really loved this one.

Lance Storm/Dawn Marie v. Chris Candido/Tammy Sytch

Some of the early comedy spots with Tammy worked well and I really loved how Candido lept into Storm's spinkick. Again this was a match where they worked hard so it's hard to totally shit on it. There was some silly shit but it was kept short and the guy that was made to look dumb was Storm so all total this was fine.

Balls Mahoney v. Masato Tanaka

Tanaka and Balls working fairly sharp mat exchanges to start this off was pretty neat. In fact I liked all of the opening parity spots as I thought it made Tanaka's eventual highspot seem more important. This was sort of their typical match with both guys going back and fourth with stiff shots and bombs but there was an oddly natural progression to this that some of their other matches lacked. The dueling chairs spot was pretty stupid looking in this and in fact I pretty much hated all of the spots with the chairs though I did like the finish. Pretty good for the style but not a home run.

Sabu/Rob Van Dam v. D-Von Dudley/Bubba Dudley

Pre-match the fans riot and toss tons of shit in the ring. Some of the opening stuff with Sabu and Bubba was okay, but after that it was a lot of stupid bullshit with RVD. Sabu almost kills himself on an attempted dive when the chair slides on the wet mat as he is trying to make a big jump. From that point on this match was just pretty silly with lots of sloppy bullshit and no flow at all.

Jack Victory/Rod Price/Justin Credible/One Man Gang v. Tommy Dreamer/John Kronus/Spike Dudley/New Jack

The opening part of this was Credible and Dreamer and that wasn't half bad. I did like the fact that Spike was the last person out to make the save and not New Jack which was a nice change.
