Posted September 7, 201015 yr comment_5455394 C.W. Anderson v. Tom Marquez Hey, it's another show I was at. C.W. does a funny rope running spot here as Marquez quits going on a criss cross and Anderson "winds himself" running back and fourth across the ring. Anderson's spinebuster looked really good here. This was a solid opener. Angel/Skull Von Krush v. Danny Doring/Roadkill Decent tag match. Doring's FIP is solid enough primarily because Krush is a pretty charismatic heel. I thought the stuff after the hot tag was kinda hokey, but Roadkill did some shit off the top so I'm not going to shit on it too much. Okay. Tony Devito v. Chris Chetti This could have sucked a lot more than it did. I have grown a bit more tolerant of Chetti but I still think he sucks in general. Here I thought he did a good job selling and bumping for Devito's stuff to the point where Devito actually came across as somewhat compelling for the first time since I've been watching this stuff. His offense still didn't look very good, but it looked better than normal and I really enjoyed him snapping on Billy Wiles on the floor. Thought Chetti looked really good in particular taking the Devito clothesline and getting into good position for the splash mountain. Finish was sort of sloppy and rushed, but this was as good a single performance as I can recall seeing from Chetti. Kid Kash v. Jerry Lynn Of course they went right to the fast paced stuff and I don't have any problem with that, but this really was pretty pedestrian fast paced stuff. When they were working parity exchanges in the early going it came across as almost a caricature of the sort of shit that guys like me and Phil always bitch about. Having said that Kash took over with a cool plancha and then did some pretty good heeling and I started to really get into this one. Then Kash takes the fucking Hamrick bump on the hardwood floor and eats Lynn's rolling senton. On the floor they are brawling and Kash instigates shit with an old lady who starts swinging at him! Holy shit that is awesome. Kash does a really good job taking a Lynn dropkick and then counters with a tornado DDT. They do some other pretty cool shit and then do one of those awful trading pinning combination spots but it does end with Kash in dominate position leading the cradle piledriver finish. I'm really torn on this, because I thought the bad spots were really bad, but this was probably the best I've seen Kash so far. Tajiri v. Super Crazy v. Little Guido By contrast with the previous match, I thought the stand off exchange that started this was really fluid and looked good and the payoff was Tajiri's twisting over the back armdrag followed by flip corner tope which is pretty much my favorite highspot sequence in ECW history. Tajiri takes over after this and then Sal and Guido run out and Sal crushes Tajiri with an elbow through a table. Guido ends up taking a nasty bump on the guardrail which sets up Crazy doing his moonsault (about ten feet away from me though I'm off camera). Man they are running through a ton of shit here, with several counters of big moves by Guido and Crazy and Tajiri is still selling his ass off on the floor after being killed by Sal. There is a really fun strike exchange in here as well. Guido almost takes Crazy's head off with a clothesline off a springboard attempt and locks in the Sicilian Crab but Tajiri rises from the grave and kicks Guido's head off. Before the attack he had Crazy tied to the tree of woe so he ties Guido now and baseball slides his face. We are ten minutes in and now Finnegan decides to make it an official three way dance which is comical. Not a minute later Guido jobs and then Tajiri destroys Crazy with a brainbuster and pins him. I'm trying not to be biased here, but I think this was one of the better full blown sprints I've seen so far even with the odd structure. Justin Credible v. Balls Mahoney Credible takes all of his nutty bumps early, Balls beats him with soda in the crowd, et. Balls really is good at getting a crowd going. Justin takes over after Balls sets up a table and gets distracted by Jason leading to Justin superkicking from the apron through the table. Balls gets good heat during the FIP but Justin does nothing compelling til he takes the basbeball slide into nut posting spot as well as I've ever seen it taken - maybe too well frankly. Jason ends up involved after a ref bump and that whole segment just goes to god damned long though Jason and Justin sharing a table bump was pretty cool and Balls frog splash always looks good. I liked the finish a good bit as they teased the annoying blindside cane shot win for Credible and instead we got a clean Balls pin. This was good but had enough shit in it that I can't see it moving forward. Steve Corino v. El Mosco Del Merced Merced might be the most underrated flyer ever as he always does at least one totally insane thing in every match. Here he does the inside out slingshot senton onto the floor and god it looks nasty. Corino takes over and does his teased spot where he threatens to throw someone into the crowd and then throws him into the ring and eats a baseball slide for his trouble. Than Merced tosses him into the crowd and hits a moonsault off the railing onto him. An overdone spot in ECW to be sure, but here it had more meaning than normal and was fun. Merced punches him square in the jaw back in the ring but Corino counters with a powerbomb before getting faceplanted by Merced. Merced hits a vaulting rana and then misses a twisting moonsault that had sick hang time. Corino is fucking hilarious with the shit talking and jawing here and he antagonizes the ref to the point where he does the slowest count possible which leads to a chop exchange with the ref that is ridiculous and hokey but actually pretty funny. Corino ends up winning shortly thereafter with a fisherman suplex which was a really stupid way to end an otherwise very fun encounter. Spike Dudley v. Taz (Falls Count Anywhere) I fucking loved this match. This match is worked as a fucking even-steven match with Spike Dudley which sounds terrible, but it is actually really awesome. Spike is constantly getting himself in bad situations and constantly fighting back from the bell to the finish. I really loved the railshot he gave Taz and the tope that followed it was appropriately crazy. Taz bealing him down a flight of stairs was nuts and the fight to the stage was well done with Taz murdering him with a table spot and Spike fighting back and using a ladder as a weapon of last resort. Some good forearm exchanges back in the ring, a really awesome Taz suplex cutoff spot and man I really loved the finish as Spike went for the Acid Drop and Taz slipped out and locked on the Tazmission for the finish. This was just a really fun brawl with both guys looking great coming out of it. Taz gave Spike a ton and didn't look weak at all. He should have wrestled like this more often. Rob Van Dam v. D-Von Dudley Man the early highlight of this is Bubba on the floor as he hides behind security from the same old lady that took a swing at Kash earlier in the night. Credible ends up coming out and caning Bubba who blades. I swear Bubba was more compelling than anything that happened in the ring as RVD was fucking horrible and D-Von wasn't much better. Balls comes out and the clusterfuck gets even stupider. This was a terrible ending to an otherwise very good show.
