Posted September 7, 201015 yr comment_5455409 FBI v. Balls Mahoney/Axl Rotten Another really good FBI tag and as good as the FBI was I thought Balls was even better. Lots of cool shit in this including Axl hitting a nasty top rope elbow drop, Rich throwing some mean punches and taking a huge bump, Tracy rocking the backhand, et. But really Balls is what made this so good. He was just a really great FIP in this match as he sold his ass off for the FBI, got himself into perfect position for the cutoff spots and then showed a lot of fire when it was time to do the cleaning house bit at the end of the match. Really liked his middle rope clothesline. Finishing bump Guido took off of Axl's spike reverse DDT was really sick looking. I could watch these two teams work each other a thousand times and never get sick of it. Just a hair short of a nomination. Wolfie D v. Louie Spicolli Wolfie does his best JC Ice impression pre-match shit talking the audience and Spicolli. Louie points to his ass after Wolfie calls him a "faggot" which was sort of a strange way to deny being a bottom. Opening flurry is cool as Wolfie does the spot where he misses the armdrag and the rana into the turnbuckle Spike which is one of my favorite offensive moves in wrestling that no one does anymore. Spicolli ends up avoiding a hubcap shot and winning in short order, but this was good while it lasted. Rob Van Dam v. Mikey Whipwreck I liked Mikey a lot in this as his bumping, selling and offense looked really good. Match was really short though and the finish with Sabu helping Van Dam was fucking stupid and annoying. Jason v. Chris Chetti Not really any good but Chetti and Jason each took a couple of sick bumps. Chris Candido v. Spike Dudley Candido comes out in Taz gear. This is really just a squash of Spike to build Candido for Taz. Some good looking stuff though they botched the first top rope powerbomb attempt pretty badly. Bam Bam Bigelow v. Lou Marconi I was impressed by the way Bigelow took Marconi's offense. This was a squash but I thought Bammer looked good in it. Super Nova/Barry Hardy v. D-Von Dudley/Bubba Dudley Another total squash. This might be the most squash heavy ECW show I've ever seen. Terry Funk v. Shane Douglas Funk is heeling like crazy here which is odd because I don't recall him being a heel at this point. Oh wait, they are in Pittsburgh never mind. Funk tears a banner off of the guardrails and piledrivers Shane on the floor. Shane tosses Funk into the front row and goes to the top to attempt a dive and Funk starts hurling chairs at him from the crowd while cursing out and threatening to attack fans. Funk is bumping and selling his ass off for Douglas who's idea of offense is not terribly impressive here. Shane suplexes him through two seated chairs for a huge pop. Funk is just wandering around punch drunk throwing shit around. The crowd surfs a sign that says "fuck the Funker" on it and he punches Funk with it over his face and then suplexes him through a ringside table. Funk makes his comeback by punching Douglas in the face and then bulldogs him on the remnants of the table. Then he rips another banner off the guardrail and gets in a tug of war with an old lady for it while he teases that he is going to hit her in the face. Shane's selling in this is pretty good. He takes two consecutive neckbreakers through seated chairs as a sort of payback spot for the suplex he hit Funk with. Douglas retreats to the crowd and Funk hits the ref with a vicious running chair shot to the back of the head and then headbutts Francine. Shane hulks up on the floor after some Funk punches and ends up crotching Funk on the guardrail before Francine decks Funk with her high heel. Shane hits three belly-to-bellys but there is no ref to count. Then Sabu runs in (they had a pull apart with all of these guys earlier in the night) and beats down Shane. Funk rolls on top for the three which he counts along with his fingers while he sticks out his tongue and mocks the crowd. Holy shit this is a great performance from Terry Funk. Possibly the best individual performance he ever had in ECW actually. Tommy Dreamer v. Sabu This flows right out of the previous match and is a hell of a bout in it's own right. Sabu hits a dive into the crowd and they immediately brawl into the stands where they do all sorts of cool shit including a Tommy stairs tumble, two Dreamer crotch spots on guardrails, and a huge Dreamer dive out of the stands onto Sabu and through a table. Back in the ring Sabu hits several of his big spots well and then cuts off an attempted leaping rana with a flying clothesline. Fonzy runs in and breaks up a count and fights with Beulah. Dreamer DDTs Sabu on a fucking chair that is on it's side. I get livid as Van Dam comes out and they double team Tommy, cutting the balls off of a great match in the process. This devolves into a huge brawl with everyone coming out from the back.
