Chris Chetti/Axl Rotten Solid tag. All the staples of the FBI really. This time I thought Axl looked pretty good as he sold the leg well off of a semi-flub which added a little depth to the match. Finish was one of the many flagpole assisted victories. Super Nova v. Bobby Duncam Jr. The best parts of this are Nova's exchanges with Jason on the floor especially his misdirection dive onto him. D-Von Dudley/Bubba Dudley v. Spike Dudley/Blue Meanie They actually managed to time a spot here with Spike vaulting off Bubba's back onto D-Von in such a fashion that it did not look contrived or even silly really which is pretty amazing. Dudz work over Spike's arm primarily as an excuse to set up the spot where the heels accidentally work over each others arm in the corner. The lights go out and Bubba press slams Spike over to the Meanie for the tag. At this point the match sort of falls apart as no one really buys Meanie as an FIP worth getting behind and Spike seems like a weird guy for Meanie to be working to the hot tag from. A real cluster breaks out and Meanie ends up hitting the Meaniesault on Big Dick. Ending run kinda sucked too. Disappointing but I'm not sure it was really anyones fault. Mikey Whipwreck v. Rob Van Dam The VQ on this match is pretty bad and really distracting. There is also at least one jump cut. Similar to their match from the second with Mikey looking really good and Van Dam being Van Dam. Actually it's a shame the quality on this isn't better because this seemed to get a lot better as time went a long with both guys breaking out of their box a bit and doing stuff they don't normally do. Mikey's fisherman suplex for example was really cool. Bam Bam Bigelow/Chris Candido/Shane Douglas v. Taz/Tommy Dreamer/Balls Mahoney This was a fun tag. Bam Bam and Taz early interactions were really cool and I enjoyed Candido's bumping and antics in this. Dreamer was a very strong FIP and Balls was an explosive guy off the hot tag. Basic work, but well executed. Sort of a perfect match of this kind for a house show. Terry Funk v. Sabu I will grant you that I am a huge Terry Funk mark, but this is a really fucking awesome match. It's basically three parts. First part is Funk getting his ass kicked and he really gets his ass kicked. Sabu beats the hell out of him with plunder shots, drags him all over the place, et. This goes on for a fairly substantial period of time to the point that I actually thought this might be a lame "Funk gets ass kicked and wins with roll up" type thing. Instead Funk just snaps and starts smashing chairs all over Sabu. He does the awesome neckbreaker onto seated chairs spot and some other cool shit. Then they go to third segment which is a series of really well done momentum swings with each guy looking like he might come out on top. Lots of big spots in here including a great spot where Funk narrowly avoids a table legdrop. Funk kicking out of the triple jump moonsault was also a legit "holy shit" moment at least for me as I don't remember a lot of people doing that at the time. Finishing run is awesome as Funk hits a piledriver and a powerbomb for a great nearfall. Then he goes for another but Sabu ranas out and goes to the top for a legdrop but Funk moves and finishes him off with a nasty powerbomb into really sick cradle pinning combo for the three. Pretty amazing that Funk could have two matches of this quality playing completely different roles against opponents as different as Douglas and Sabu at this point in his career.
