Posted September 12, 201015 yr comment_5455574 Danny Davis/Ron Garvin v. Paul Orndorff Edits in this were really strange as it ate up a big chunk of the beginning of the match. I have no earthly idea why Cornette would book a handicapped match to go this long either, as if the second edit picks up at the fifteen minute mark. The Garvin v. Orndorff stuff looks pretty good for what it is, but the match really doesn't pick up til Davis comes in and Orndorff starts targeting his injured neck. Build to the hot tag is eaten alive by another edit, but I did like some of the teases that were shown and Garvin blistering Orndorff with big shots early was cool. Finish was lame. This match went 24 minutes unedited which is just amazingly stupid. Post-match stuff with Orndorff piledriving Davis was easily the best thing about this. Dirty White Boy v. Tim Horner (Lumberjack Match) I loved the opening to this as DWB has his back turned drawing with lumberjacks and eats a big Horner dropkick sending him to the floor. Does a good job establishing the gimmick and the peril DWB's title are in at the same time. Lots of basic work early that eventually leads to a big Horner face plant off of a rope running exchange. Horner ends up taking some bumps to the floor to set up the inevitable heel v. face lumberjack scrums and eventually eats a good looking DDT from Anthony after another rope running bit. One thing I'm really diggins so far is the deliberate eyepoking spot the heels will do when the babyfaces are attempting a comeback, and DWB does a really perfect one here. Really good nearfall off of a twisting sunset flip from Horner. Horner's babyface comeback is Southern as fuck and sees Anthony take his big leaping back bump off of a punch which I always mark for. Anthony cuts it off by tossing Horner to the floor and they go to the Orndorff assisted brass knucks finish. Decent match but I don't think the Lumberjacks did anything to improve upon this and the match probably would have been better off had these guys been able to go to the floor. Mongolian Stomper v. Kevin Sullivan Sullivan's pre-match interview is so great. They immediately start brawling all over the building. Having just watched a lot of ECW I have sort of grown sick of crowd brawling, but I thought it was really great here as the crowd seemed to be scared to death of these two and Sullivan running from the Stomper and bleeding huge made things even better. Then these two got back to the ring and it became obvious how weak the Stomper looked which pretty much killed this for me. Nighstalker runs in for the finish. Battle Royal The set up for this is that fans get to pick perspective winners and put their name in a box for said wrestler. If that wrestler wins there is a drawing from his box and the winner gets a VCR. This ends up coming down to DWB, Nightsalker and Smothers, with the heels teaming up to beat on Smothers. Smothers ends up winning after a double clothesline spot. The end of this was fairly fun. Rock N Roll Express v. The Heavenly Bodies (Street Fight) R N R's Pearl Harbor the heels to start this off as they hit the ring with plunder and have the Bodies reeling. This is very low key "chaos," but it's chaos and it works okay. Cornette ends up taking a huge table bump off of a Morton right which naturally leads to the Bodies comeback with Corny tossing powder into the eyes of the RnR's, setting about a table as a weapon, and tying Morton down to the ropes by his neck. The Bodies end up trying to tie a bag on Roberts head but Morton gets cut loose and cleans house with a chair. Babyfaces end up dragging the table into the ring and using it as a base to toss the heels into. Cornette takes a few more big bumps as shit is really breaking down. Pritchard loads up the boot and gets a three count for the finish and title switch. This was a decent street fight, but I really thought it lacked urgency and the only guy who really seemed to bring their A Game was Cornette. Post-match there are clips from a Bodies v. RnR barbed wire cage mach and an RnR video.
June 18, 201114 yr comment_5473896 Handicap Match: Paul Orndorff vs. "TNT" Danny Davis & "Hands of Stone" Ronnie Garvin (11/28/92) The story behind this is that Orndorff injured Davis with a piledriver and Garvin is his main rival so he thinks that it would take both of them to take him out as a unit than as singles. Heavy clipping here at the start with Garvin pounding on Orndorff for most of the first 15 minutes. The crowd wasn't into this much as the faces were dominant for so long but Orndorff would soon get control working over Davis' bad neck and the control section was well done. There was more clipping while Davis tried to get the tag which sucked but when he got the tag Garvin was awesome working over Orndorff. The finish was fine as Orndorff countered a Garvin piledriver with a backdrop but Davis caught him with a clothesline and Garvin cradled him up for a win. Orndorff then sent Garvin to the floor and gave Davis a piledriver for his trouble. Satisfying finish to a disappointing match mainly due to clipping and psychology. Lumberjack Match for the SMW Heavyweight Title: "Dirty White Boy" Tony Anthony © vs. "White Lightning" Tim Horner (11/28/92) The story here is that DWB always runs away so Horner wanted lumberjacks to keep that from happening. Horner sends DWB to the floor numerous times to start the match to send the message to him that he would be thrown back in the ring immediately if he wanted to take a break. I love the story that Dutch tells about DWB killing a 300 pound 20 point buck with his bare hands the morning of the show. DWB takes control after a Horner faceplant into the mat and would send Horner to the floor to the heels who tried to attack him but the faces quickly stopped that. DWB would just nuke Horner with a DDT but wasn't in a hurry to put him away so he kept up the pressure using strikes and throwing Horner to the floor for a little extra help. Horner would make a comeback with a nice jumping twisting sunset flip for a nearfall but DWB fired back with a big clothesline. After taking more shots, Horner made a fiery comeback before being sent back to the floor where the heels attacked him and sent him back to the ring with Orndorff going to the apron and he throws knux to DWB who uses it on Horner to put him away. This was a good match but I agree with Dylan that the lumberjacks were more of a hindrance than a help. Mongolian Stomper vs. Kevin Sullivan (11/28/92) Stomper is the local legend brought in to take out the violent Sullivan. This is nothing but a wild brawl as they brawl in the fans to start with Sullivan juicing before they return to the ring where Stomper stomped him but Sullivan would fight back with Mongolian chops until Stomper caught him with the Shennomake which would bring out the Nightstalker for the DQ. Terrible finish to this match which was very short. Fan's Choice Battle Royal won by Tracy Smothers (11/28/92) Tracy takes out DWB & Nightstalker with a double clothesline in your standard fare battle royal. Next we get clips of the buildup to the RnR/Bodies match coming up with clips from previous matches. Street Fight for the SMW Tag Titles: The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) © vs. The Heavenly Bodies ("Sweet" Stan Lane & Dr. Tom Prichard) (11/28/92) Lane wears weightlifting attire here which is hilarious. RnR comes in from the fans and they sneak attack the Bodies with a trashcan and lid which was innovative for 1992. Both teams take turns using weapons along with Cornette getting involved and the juice starts flowing early. I disagree with Dylan in that I thought the brawling wasn't low-key at all and they were working pretty hard here along with Cornette who was bumping around. Morton gets hung on the bottom rope allowing Corny to punch him repeatedly. Morton gets cut loose as Gibson gets a bag put on his head and he cleans house with a steel chair as Gibson brings the table to the ring. Gibson would throw Lane into the table with Morton throwing Prichard next before Corny is brought into the ring who holds Gibson for a clothesline by Tom but he eats it instead and takes a great bump. Tom eats a double dropkick for a nearfall and recovers enough to load up his boot which he would use on Gibson to get the win. This was an all out brawl that was done very well plus you had Corny taking wild bumps and this is a fairly easy nomination to me. Next we get clips of a barbed wire cage match between these two teams and a RnR video.
