This is billed as Piper's last match in MSG and was a go home match for Mania III. Just an insanely fun match, with tons of cool shit and a totally wild feel. It goes about 19 minutes and is an all out sprint with everybody bringing lots of cool shit. Race was a bump machine in this and his early exchange with Dog was great. Adonis looked really good here and him selling the elbow after trying to hit Dog in the head with it was really awesome. Savage was constantly interfering to break up everything. Steamboat was mainly there to work karate spots but they all looked cool. This was really Piper's match as far as the MSG crowd was concerned and he delivered here with some really wild brawling and some awesome facial expressions. Especially loved his interaction with Steamboat after Race stole a pin on the Dragon and he realizes he has to go it alone. Finish is really cool as Piper and Savage collide mid ring with Savage going to the floor. Piper gets up but realizes Savage is still on the ground so plays possom and lets Savage go to the top for an elbow. Piper moves at the last second and sneaks a small package win to a huge pop. There were a few things that didn't connect perfectly and the timing of the official on the eliminations wasn't great, but this was so much fucking fun. Also worth noting that Slick is great on commentary.

Yeah this was totally awesome. WWF Race maybe my favorite Race as his theatrical bumping works really well in this kind of match. I am going to want to watch some of the Race v. JYD singles matches as their sections here were great. Piper and Savage have great chemistry and their finish section was a blast. I have loved all of the Piper I have watched since starting to check this stuff out, he is going to be the stock raised guy for sure.

I liked this a whole lot. Harley and Dog's exchanges were tremendous and Harley selling his elbow after using it on Dog's head was awesome. The wild brawl that led to the first eliminations was great with Piper and Adrian going balls to the wall in a fist fight on the aisle way. Piper's FIP segment was good afterwards and I loved Savage's quick flurry of punches to Roddy's ribcage. Savage's bump into the ropes was totally outrageous and awesome. Steamer was great on the hot tag karate chopping the shit out of Harley. The Piper-Steamer interaction after Ricky's elimination was tremendous and really pumped me up for the finishing run. Piper brawling with both Race and Savage at the same time was great. I liked how he eliminated both guys especially the finish where he plays possum and Randy misses the elbow followed by Piper winning with a small package. This was a great go home Mania show and another tremendous find on the Piper "retirement" tour. EASY NOMINATION

Randy Savage, Adrian Adonis & Harley Race vs. Junkyard Dog, Roddy Piper & Ricky Steamboat (Elimination Match) (MSG 2/23/87)

I really liked this match when I first saw it on a Coliseum Home Video I rented years ago. Stil a great match and an EASY nomination. Bonus points for Slick on commentary and for the team introductions at the start adding to the experience.

Randy Savage, Adrian Adonis & Harley Race vs. Junkyard Dog, Roddy Piper & Ricky Steamboat (Elimination Match) (MSG 2/23/87)
1st & 2nd elimination: Nobody can get an advantage because they are being saved by their partners. Everybody gets some signature offense in. I loved the dueling sleepers between Adonis and Piper. Dog and Adonis were counted out during a wild melee where all six men were on the outside.
3rd elimination: I need to look for a Race-Steamboat match because I really like the match-up. Steamboat gets a small package and Savage switches it behind the referee’s back and Piper is one on two against Savage and Race.
4th elimination: Race and Macho beat up on Piper. Savage comes off the top with an axe handle and accidentally hits Race. Piper pins Race.
Last elimination: Piper and Savage are the 2 biggest stars so it is fitting they are the last two. Savage hits an ugly clothesline for two. Really hot stretch run: Elbow to the throat gets two. Scoop slam counter for Piper gets two. They start choking each other. Piper does a deadlift choke followed by a ground and pound. A noggin knocker knocks Savage out of the ring but the ref allows him to get in the ring after a ten count. Savage climbs to the top and misses the elbow. Piper gets the small package for the win.
Awesome match. EASY NOMINATION. This is a great way to feature several matches at Mania and letting them interact without giving away the matches.
