Posted September 30, 201015 yr comment_5456452 Not sure when thesd matches happened, I'm guessing either 1981 or 1983 ... Baba/?? vs. Destroyer/??? - No idea about the identities of the tag partners, but this wasn't much of a match anyway, so it doesn't matter. David & Kevin Von Erich vs. Tenryu/Ishikawa - This was joined almost 10 minutes in so it's hard to judge. Good action with the Von Erichs going for claws and Ishikawa throwing some great punches as the underdog trying to fight out of trouble. It was interesting to watch Tenryu in this period, because he moved much more like a small man, bouncing around and striking with less authority. No nomination but I'm glad I saw it. Snuka/Sheik vs. Jumbo/Steamboat - As in their 1980 singles match, Steamboat seemed desperate to tear a piece out of Sheik's ass. It was nice to see that kind of fire from him after a lot of bland performances in All Japan. I was surprised that Snuka pinned Jumbo so cleanly with his dive off the top for the first fall. But Jumbo got his receipt with a beautiful cross body off the top for the second fall. The third ended in a clusterfuck with guys using a rope to hang each other and Sheik bleeding after Jumbo and Steamboat gored him with his own foreign object. There were some lackluster stretches in this, but given the interesting combo of guys and the wild fight at the end, you guys should take a look. Anybody have an idea where to find the date?? Jumbo/Tenryu vs. David & Kevin Von Erich - JIP. Kevin and Tenryu caught my eye with some stiff strike exchanges, but this never took on a clear identity. Snuka vs. Steamboat - Ricky looked really good, but after some nice early counter exchanges, Snuka turned in a sluggish performance. The match just died whenever he took control, and they lost the crowd because of it. Their nominated match from 6/81 was a whole lot better.
