Posted October 4, 201015 yr comment_5456755 NWA International Tag Titles: Riki Choshu & Yoshiaki Yatsu © vs. Genichiro Tenryu & Jumbo Tsuruta (3/4/86) Rubber match time as they have split their last two matches for the titles. Jumbo & Choshu start off slow so Tenryu tags in and turns up the aggression as usual. The others would soon follow and then this turned into a solid back and forth match where the intensity would slowly pick up with the fans rising with the wrestlers as the nearfalls started mounting. Both teams were doing similar spots from their previous matches but it didn't matter as the formula was really solid. They would build to a hot stretch run before they would go to the floor for a double countout. Hara & Rusher came out after the match and jumped Choshu for a wild brawl. This wasn't as good as the more famous matches between these two teams but the action here was very good and I think this is a nomination.
October 4, 201015 yr comment_5456765 This was probably something I would have nominated if they had only matched up once or twice. But I have it eighth among their matches between 11/85 and 2/87, so this is where I drew the line ... They started with a few minutes of feeling out. Choshu and Yatsu eventually seized the advantage with some strong work on Tenryu's midsection. Tenryu tagged out a bit casually considering the punishment. That led to a solid section of back-and-forth action between Jumbo and Choshu with Choshu getting the better of it after a double clothesline spot. Choshu put Jumbo in the scorpion, and I thought it was neat when Yatsu dropped a top-rope elbow on Tsuruta in that position. The match turned again when Tenryu ran in to save Jumbo and hurt Choshu's ribs. As usual, Riki got the crowd behind him with some nice selling of fighting through the pain. The ending melee feature strong action as well, with Tenryu using an enzuigiri to save Jumbo from a Yatsu suplex only for Choshu to bolt in and lariat Jumbo. Then they went to the double countout. I could see someone nominating this, but they borrowed a lot of themes and even specific spots from their previous two matches, and both of those had definitive, crowd-pleasing finishes. So I'm going to leave this one on the shelf.
