Freebirds vs. Tenryu/Ishikawa - The Freebirds controlled most of the match and turned in a dull performance by their standards with too many chinlocks and not enough cool double teams. Tenryu gave the match a jolt of energy whenever he tagged in, but that wasn't often enough. Gordy finished Ishikawa with some weird hybrid of a piledriver and a powerbomb. Jumbo vs. Steve Olonowski - Olonowski mixed Stan-Lane-style karate with mid-level flying moves and even hit Jumbo with a piledriver on the floor (shrugged off quickly.) I liked how he blocked Jumbo's first attempt at a backdrop suplex and quickly responded with a fusillade of punches and a flying elbow. This was one of those matches where Jumbo gave his opponent most of the offense, then put him away with little set-up. I'm not a fan of the formula, which the fans anticipated all too well. But this was a decent version.
