Perro Aguayo vs. Sangre Chicana vs. El Faraon vs. Villano III - Elimination Match (10/84)

Kind of a confusing match, which starts as a four way and then ends up in a bunch of singles matches. It eventually shakes out to a Sangre Chicana v. Perro Aguayo singles match which was the violent bloody brawl you would expect. Both guys are awesome brawlers, and just laid into each other, I epecially loved Chicanas downward right hand KO punch and Chicana getting pissed and just cracking Perro in the nuts. Good stuff.

Sangre Chicana/Mocho Cota/Cien Caras vs. Atlantis/Villano III/Mascara Ano 2000 (10/26/84)

Lots of really great wrestlers in this match, and any time you get V4 v. Sangre it is going to be worth seeing. Still there wasn't enough stand out moments or crazy spots or brawling to put this on a set. I liked it, but this was averagish.

Javier "El Monarca" Cruz vs. El Dandy - Hair Match (10/26/84)

On paper this looks like a bloodbath, but this was weirdly free of plasma, as this was worked more like a title match. Still a really great match, with Dandy looking like the legend he is and Monarca with him hold for hold. I loved the tope causing the countout and double shaving, such a cool finish. Well worth a set spot, although I really wish we had their 1986 match which was a legendary gore fest.

El Satanico vs. Super Astro (10/26/84)

I wasn't expecting this to be this kind of nasty bloodbath, especially following the bloodless hair match. Jesus is Satanico brutal, there is this moment where he is just slamming Astro's head against the bottom turnbuckle that looked like something out of Sons of Anarchy. I loved how Astro would use his head as a weapon, with the in ring tope as a desperation blow. Really fun match with a batch of blood. I could see this being top 15

Perro Aguayo vs. Sangre Chicana vs. El Faraon vs. Villano III - Elimination Match (10/84)

Yeah, the rules were a little hard to follow at points, but every shot in this match seemed like it was laid in full-force, so who cares. I was mildly disappointed in the finish for, like, a millisecond, and then all the fans swarmed ringside and started chanting "Chicana! Chicana!", so it ended up being awesome. Easy nomination.

Good, but definitely a letdown given the talent involved.

What's really weird about this match is that while it is bloodless, and I agree with Phil's comments about it being worked almost like a title match, it still felt really hateful and violent to me. Not a lot of extended brawling segments, but the shots thrown were nasty. They also both ate offense spectacularly. Cruz took the Baba falling neckbreaker by doing a horrific bump on the back of his head, and then Dandy tried to top it by landing right on his face off of a flapjack. An apuestas match ending in a draw feels like something that shouldn't work, but damned if they didn't pull it off here. I loved Cruz pulling Dandy off of the apron just as he was about to beat the count, and Dandy just going "you fucker!" and kicking the shit out of him. Easy nomination.

El Satanico vs. Super Astro (10/26/84)

I'm not as into this match as Phil, but no denying it is spectacular. Brawler vs. flyer is such a great match-up when you have the right guys, as the brawler will just pummel the flyer and the flyer will bump from here to next Tuesday to put it over. It also makes the flyer's flying seem more critical and dangerous when he gets to pull it off (has the tope en reversa ever looked more dramatic?) and can even show hidden depths as a brawler himself (which Astro definitely does). Satanico is an all-time great brawler, Astro is an all-time great flier, and it adds up to an awesome match. Nomination.
