Posted November 4, 201014 yr comment_5457959 Lance Storm v. D-Lo Brown This was a decent opening match. They did multiple spots where Lance would go up for some splash or big offense move and D-Lo would catch him with a slam variation which was repetitive but fit a sensible theme. D-Lo hit some pretty cool shit in this including a reverse powerbomb that Storm faceplants for. Overall a good, albeit uneventful, showing. Byrant Anderson v. Tracy Smothers This starts with a brawl, then Byrant retreats and they go into a deal where they work an amateur challenge gimmick. Tracy is getting the crowd riled up and barking at people in the front row about something. The amateur exchanges and grappling aren't anything special, but they look good and give both guys an opportunity to build the match without relying soley on stalling or body part work. Tracy ends up getting his arm attacked by Bryant, who is an Anderson after all. Arm work segment is fairly spirited effort from Anderson even if it was elementary. Tracy's selling was very strong. Match is starting to look pretty darn good when They badly botch a back body drop spot that was supposed to be Tracy's comeback spot. They work hard afterward, but the flub happened at literally the worst possible time and the match was a lot worse for it. Ron Wright/Dirty White Boy v. Jim Cornette/Bruiser Bedlam This almost all schtick and goes way too long. I enjoyed some of Cornette's bumping, begging off and antics in general, but it could have been accomplished in half the time. Having said that, the crowd was really into this. Cactus Jack/Brian Lee v. Chris Candido/Boo Bradley Really enjoyed the early Candido pinballing segment as it was about twenty-five seconds of Candido taking every possible elevation style bump imaginable from Lee before walking off just before Jack was set to drop the apron dive elbow on him. Boo comes in the ring and ends up walking around with his pants around his ankles to a huge crowd pop and the dismay of Candido. Cool rope running exchange with Boo faceplanting with the Dustin bump at the end. Foley ends p working a semi-FIP segment which is sort of strange and ill fitting. Lee's FIP was more spirited and I though the stuff at the end with the spots off the top was fairly well executed but I didn't really care for the layout of this. Good match, but seemed like it should have been better. Bob Orton v. Bob Armstrong Not a bad match by any means, but yet another SMW match that felt REALLLY long. Nothing good or bad really just stuff that was there. Maybe I've just had a long day. The Gangstas v. The Rock N Roll Express (Street Fight) Too short to be anything special, but this did have some cool moments and a really good pre-match New Jack promo.
July 9, 201114 yr comment_5476225 D-Lo Brown vs. Lance Storm (11/24/94) D-Lo looked good here considering his experience and Lance was competent so this wasn't bad. Bryant Anderson vs. "Wild Eyed Southern Boy" Tracy Smothers (11/24/94) Bryant had the great Ole Anderson of the 90's look going on so that was good and he worked like an Anderson which was also good but didn't have the Anderson charisma which hurt. They did some "amateur wrestling" which was fine for what it was but during this and when Anderson was in control there was this very annoying group of fans on the front row who were marking out for Bryant jawing at Tracy then being very animated when Mark Curtis was asking if he was cheating. Smothers was doing a good job here of selling for Bryant. They totally fuck up a back drop spot and the match totally fell apart after that and became kinda embarrassing which sucked for the guys. "Dirty White Boy" Tony Anthony & Ron Wright vs. Bruiser Bedlam & Jim Cornette (11/24/94) This was nothing but schtick pretty much hell Ron wrestled this wearing a sweatshirt and jeans. The fans loved it though. Cactus Jack & "Primetime" Brian Lee vs. Boo Bradley & Chris Candido (11/24/94) Balls was fun here in the Boo gimmick which was basically Norman the Lunatic 5 years later. The opening segment with Lee & Candido was really fun as Chris was pinballing around for Brian who was looked great here. The comedy stuff with Boo was good especially because of Candido who was appalled at everything that was going on. Cactus would take punishment for a while before tagging in Lee who would soon become the FIP and he did a good job especially against Boo. Cactus got the hot tag and the 4-way brawl was on with Boo taking him to the floor with a spinning back kick over the top rope and the match would end in a double countout. There was some good stuff here but definitely not enough for a nomination. Bullet Bob Armstrong vs. Bob Orton Jr. (11/24/94) Bullet was supposed to face Abdullah the Butcher here but Abby didn't show so Orton was called in. I loved Bullet doing the Banzai Drop on Orton's cowboy hat to start the match. I really dug the mat exchanges early on with both men looking good especially Orton was bumping around very well for someone his age. Orton then went to work on Bullet and this was good stuff as he was methodical but used some cool spots such as his one hand backbreaker as he lifted up Bullet by his tights. Orton would lock in a sleeper that looked real good and the fans were into Bob making his comeback out of this but a short clothesline by Orton killed that chance. Orton went for a piledriver though and Bullet countered with a backdrop starting a flurry but a knee in the face would end that. Orton then went for a top rope Vader Bomb but met all knees which brought out Bruiser Bedlam so DWB ran out to counter that attack as that was going on Orton tried to use the racket and failed so Corny got hit then Bullet used the racket to win. This was a pretty damn fun match mainly thanks to Orton and I think this is a nomination. Street Fight for the SMW Tag Titles: The Gangstas (New Jack & Mustafa Saed) © vs. The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) (11/24/94) This was fun for what it was which was a brawl with weapons but it didn't go very long which wasn't a bad thing really.
