Posted November 12, 201014 yr comment_5458254 Clip from "The Wrestler" Ric Flair v. Chris Taylor This is obviously a match from the 70's. Greg Gagne and Bischoff are on commentary making this really surreal. Not a good match but still interesting to watch. Ric Flair interview setting up a Chicago match with Billy Robinson. Ric Flair v. Sgt. Slaughter JIP. This is the lat few minutes of what looked like it may have been a really great match with Flair bumping big on the floor, a great figure-four heat spot, and Slaughter locking on the Cobra Clutch over the ropes leading to Zukoff running in and destroying Slaughter. Ric Flair interview about coming to Chicago for SuperClash. Shits on all the Chicago sports teams to build himself up. Ric Flair v. Magnum T.A. This is from SuperClash so it is an AWA promoted show. The opening mat work is standard but solid and the first big attack by Magnum with him hitting a dropkick and gorilla press was a good set up for the pending Flair cut off with Flair side stepping a second drop kick a little further down the road. Really liked Flair's offense as his forearms looked sharp, his butterfly suplex was sweet and the ab stretch spot with him switching between trunk pulling, hair pulling and then a full head clasp depending on the refs positioning was really cool. Flair ends up going for a second big knee drop but Magnum moves and immediately locks on a figure-four. Flair ends up blocking a second figure-four attempt and after what looks like a small edit Flair hits his shinbreaker and locks on a figure-four himself. Flair ends up getting rolled up for a nearfall on a second figure-four attempt and then gets bumped over the ropes to the floor with both guys brawling around ringside. Flair gets busted open and Magnum starts punching him in the face wildly. They end up going to the Flair bridge out spot after a random headlock takedown ending with a Magnum nearfall off of a backslide. Belly-to-belly off the ropes for a nearfall when Flair's legs accidentally whack the ref slowing the count. Magnum with a roll through but Flair reverses it and holds the tights for the finish. I liked this an awful lot. I hate to say this is the best match I've seen so far because I don't want to shit on the AWA homegrowns, but it was awfully good. Rick Martel v. Ric Flair This is the Japan match and I believe it is an AJPW match. I'm not going to watch it for that reason (and the fact that I've seen it a million times). If someone wants to call me a prick and tell me it is an AWA match and I need to watch it I'll do so later. Rick Martel/Ric Flair v. Genchiro Tenryu/Jumbo Tsuruta Another AJPW match. See above. Ric Flair v. Nick Bockwinkel JIP. Starts off with some nearfalls, then Bock has Flair in a leglock. Flair kicks Bock off and Bock hits the ropes and grabs Flair's upright legs and locks on a Boston Crab which was a pretty clever spot. Bock just punches the shit out of Flair for a nearfall and then they collide coming off the ropes. Bock goes for a splash off the ropes but Flair gets his knees up. Flair with a double stomp and then a vertical suplex before locking on the figure-four. Bock reverse and then rolls up Flair ona second attempt for a nearfall. Flair ends up tossing Bock to the floor as a desperation move. Flair with a sleeper coming off the ropes, but Bock goes to the corner and drops down sending Flair's face into the turnbuckle to break the hold. Flair takes his slam off the top rope and Bock is fired up and grabs his own sleeper coming off the ropes. Flair goes "out" but gets his foot on the bottom rope to break the pin attempt. Flair with a belly to back for a nearfall, but Bock recovers and locks on his own figure-four. Bock keeps going for the figure-four and Flair keeps kicking out. Struggle for a suplex ends up with Bock winning for another nearfall. They exchange some nearfalls off of roll up variations and Flair ends up taking a bump to the floor off of a big Bock punch. Finish is Flair/Bock tumbling over the top for a countout. This is about 17 minutes of a 27 minutes but it was pretty good 17 minutes. I wonder if there is a more complete version out there. Ric Flair/Woman interview about coming back to St. Paul for "Twin Wars 90." Ric Flair interview about Twin Wars again. Really good promo.
