Posted November 14, 201015 yr comment_5458305 JIP. We lose about four minutes likely of little importance as it starts off in a simple headlock. Lots of early spots with Blackwell surprising Robinson with armdrags, Robinson being unable to lock on a full nelson, Robinson having to avoid a Blackwell monkey flip attempt off the ropes, et. Blackwell and Robinson do a really sharp looking mat exchange with some decent looking counters. On the reset Blackwell takes over, trips the leg and drops a huge legdrop on Robinson's leg. Robinson slowly reverses the momentum on the mat and starts working over Blackwell's legs. Blackwell gets the break somehow which causes Billy to freak out. Blackwell extends the hand and slips in a knee for the cheapshot. Blackwell's heat segment wasn't all that great, but then Robinson starts to make his comeback and Blackwell pops with a nasty dropkick out of nowhere. He ends up missing a splash and Robinson gets a nearfall. Blackwell's selling of Robinson's punches was really great and the double rope running spot ending in a Robinson forearm for a nearfall was really cool. Billy's badass neckbreaker for another good nearfall. Blackwell misses a corner charge but then Blackwell catches him with a knee coming in and puts his legs on the ropes for a pretty weak looking finish. The best parts of this were awfully good, but their were moments that fell a bit flat and the finish was not convincing at all. Overall a strong but flawed match.
April 16, 201213 yr comment_5500269 Crusher Blackwell vs. Billy Robinson (12/3/81) This is JIP but we don't miss much here. Robinson tries to use his grappling advantage to take Blackwell down but Blackwell hangs with Robinson on the mat which frustrates him a little bit and makes this even more compelling as Robinson usually has no problems dominating the early part of matches. Robinson starts to key on Blackwell's legs since he is so big with Blackwell countering with a headscissors but Robinson comes back with a counter of his own that was MUGAesque. The back and forth action kept going as both men just couldn't get a sustained advantage with Robinson still working on the legs and getting frustrated as hell at Blackwell's ability to counter. Blackwell would get a cheap knee in the ribs to allow him to get some offense in on Robinson but it wasn't until he hit a big dropkick that he had Robinson in trouble. Blackwell would miss a big splash though and Robinson then went to his big offensive gameplan trying to put away Blackwell but Blackwell would catch him with a knee smash and used the ropes to put more weight on Robinson to win. I liked the psychology here maybe even more than the actual work here and I think this should move forward.
May 25, 201213 yr comment_5503790 Jerry Blackwell v. Billy Robinson Low End Nomination - Blackwell #1 - Early on, really slow. However, if you can stay awake, some really good stuff like Robinson reversing the leg lock Jerry had applied. This is hurt by the slow pace and high expectations. O was hoping for something like Billy-Bock. This doesn’t come close. Low level nomination.
