Posted November 17, 201014 yr comment_5458385 Clips of Blackwell v. a jobber. Jerry Blackwell v. Steve O JIP. Some really good looking punches from Blackwell. Holy shit an awesome looking vertical suplex as well! Steve O's comeback is super hot and the build to the big Blackwell bump was good. Blackwell in the toehold and here comes Adnan. Steve O drops him but Blackwell attacks Steve from behind and hits the big splash for the finish. WAY too much of this was cut at the front end, but what was shown was really good. Jerry Blackwell v. Ray Stevens JIP. Man all the big spots in this looked brutal, from the missed avalanche and elbow drop, to the connected elbow drop from Blackwell, to Stevens jumping knees to Blackwell's arm. Stevens working Blackwell's arm is really the base of this and all of those bigger spots come from within the context of that. They do a trading dropkicks sequence on this that sounds stupid but was actually pretty cool. Blackwell driving elbows into Stevens face while he was down on the mat was pretty sweet. Extended segment with Stevens on the floor where NOTHING happens. Blackwell misses a big splash off the middle rope which was a pretty great spot. Stevens goes for the bombs away, but Adnan pushes him off the top which the ref misses. Blackwell with the pinfall win. This is about 11 minutes of an 18 minute match. I get the feeling that if this existed in full it would have been a match worth considering, but without the front end it falls a bit flat despite the relatively hard work from Stevens and Blackwell. Jerry Blackwell/Adnan v. Mad Dog Vachon/Baron Von Raschke JIP. Really epic blade job from the Baron. I actually really liked his escape of the Sheik's ab stretch and short claw attempt. Also liked his stagger roundhouses and blood loss selling. Jerry Blackwell v. Greg Gagne This is on a previous Blackwell disc. Jerry Blackwell/Sheik Adnan v. Brad Rheingans/Buddy Lane (2/3 Falls) JIP. VQ is pretty bad. Faces win the first fall after Rheingans rolls through on a bodyslam attack from Blackwell. Second fall features Rheingans getting thrown over the top to the floor. Then Lane eats a Samoan Drop. The ref starts chopping Blackwell and tries to whip him into the corner but gets an avalance splash. Heels end up destroying a bunch of people including a body slam and Blackwell splash on the floor to Greg Gagne. The Baron makes the save. Post-angle Blackwell does a good interview with Okerland who is indignant. Karbo comes over and announces he will give them the biggest fine in wrestling history. EXTRA Interview with The Sheiks. High Flyers v. Jerry Blackwell/Sheik Adnan Blackwell takes two early dropkick into armdrag bumps from each of the High Flyers. Blackwell is having his arm worked over and does an insane roll up where he leaps over Gagne and rolls over his back for a good nearfall. Adnan finally gets in and he gets his ass kicked too. Jesus the faces take almost all of this match. Heels steal the belts I think? It's hard to tell what the fuck is going on. High Flyers v. Jerry Blackwell/Sheik Adnan JIP. Awesome spot with Blackwell doing a wild reverse backflip escape spot. Cool ab stretch spot with Adnan and Greg. Blackwell bumping huge for the High Flyers. Blackwell ends up winning with a splash. High Flyers v. Jerry Blackwell/Sheik Adnan (Cage Match) This was some kind of raw footage and had a couple of strange cuts, at one point with the camera shot changing to the back of the Arena during a huge Blackwell bump, which also may have seen a fair bit of the match cut. Having said that, what was shown here was really good. The bulk of this is Gagne in peril which is a role I actually like him in as he is over and can take a pretty good asskicking. Some of the camera shots in this are fun including close ups of women in near tears, Brunzell's bloody face as he begs Greg to tag him, et. There is even blood splattered on the camera at one point. Kassie is way better in this than I would have thought and at one point takes one of the nastiest looking cage rakes I've ever seen from Brunzell. I was on the fence about nominating this mainly due to the edits, but the finish is really great. Greg ends up getting the hot tag and Brunzell comes in hot, but Greg ends up back on the defensive. Blackwell goes to the top rope and misses a huge splash, than takes an insane over the ropes bump into the cage to set up the double dropkick pin by the faces on Adnan. Just a really great "holy shit!" sequence, capped off with a heel beatdown of Greg post-match and Verne running into the ring to beat on Kassie while the crowd surges and tries to jump into the cage to help the faces. Mad Dog Vachon interview with Okerland. Finish of Blackwell/Adnan v. Mad Dog/Steve O with Blackwell destroying Steve O's hand and the Mad Dog clearing the ring with weapons. Jerry Blackwell/Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissie v. Mad Dog Vachon/Baron Von Raschke There is a very small edit in this where we lose almost nothing and that is a good thing because this is a tremendous match and easily the best thing I've watched so far. Pre-match Karbo comes out and says that since Adnan and Blackwell are wearing casts the faces get to tape up their fists. Of course the result of this is the heels getting their fucking asses kicked for the first five minutes. Mad Dog is a great fired up face and I love his over the top antics. Adnan selling the shit out of his back rake was great and the crowd was fucking molten throughout this whole match. Blackwell was a bump freak early and he ends up bleeding profusely flying all over the ring, getting thrown out on a table with Adnan where the faces kick their asses some more. Blackwell takes over on Raschke and I'll be damned if the Baron isn't a really compelling FIP. Baron starts bleeding pretty badly and they do a cool spot with Baron and Blackwell getting knocked down and Baron is crawling as fast as he can to get a hot tag and just gets stomped on his head at the last second. Blackwell hits a fucking brutal looking elbow drop right after that and then his awesome powerslam out of the corner. God damn the crowd is hot for everything in this match. Finish is really great as Raschke fires up and locks the claw on bloody Blackwell, but Adnan blindsides the Baron with his cast and Blackwell hits a splash for the finish. Post-match the heels beat the piss out of the faces and Verne comes out and clears the ring. The heels make like they are going to leave but then turn around and beat the fuck out of Verne too! Okerland is screaming for order over the house mic as the heels go to the back and fans literally start beating the fuck out of Blackwell and Adnan who have to run for their lives. Really great in every way. Mad Dog Vachon interview asking Verne to be his partner. Verne Gagne interview announcing he will be his partner. Verne and Mad Dog backstage interview. Mad Dog Vachon/Verne Gagne v. Jerry Blackwell/Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissie Early on Blackwell with his awesome big bumping and selling for Verne and then we get an edit with Adnan and Mad Dog going at it. They spill to the floor and Mad Dog gets busted open with a bell shot. Mad Dog starts throwing chairs into the ring but it does not good as he is busted open and gets beat to shit by Adnan with the cast and Blackwell with the powerslam. Wild stand off spot with Blackwell and Mad Dog trading sick sounding punches. Mad Dog tags in Verne who rattles off some cool shit including a nice drop kick but then gets hit with a big powerslam. Blackwell with his big missed splash bumps and the faces remove the cast from Adnan. Mad Dog hits a pretty nasty looking chairshot on Blackwell on the floor. Verne with a diving knee onto Adnan's "broken" arm for the finish. I liked this one a lot actually, but it was only about half of a 13 minute match. I'll pass it along as a low end nomination, with the caveat that it really ought to be an extra if it doesn't make the cut as a match. Okerland narration of Adnan's career. Interview with Adnan asking Heenan to sell him Ken Patera for 250,000 dollars. Subsequent interview with the official "transaction" and it is great and a slam dunk EXTRA

Jesus the faces take almost all of this match. Heels steal the belts I think? It's hard to tell what the fuck is going on. Context is that the Sheiks get called back to the ring to finish the match when someone points out that they cheated to win. Sheiks don't come back and get counted out. There are two matches with this finish, one from Winnipeg and one from St. Paul. I used one of them on the set to show the non-title wins that the Sheiks got during the feud, and cut off the countout ending so it wasn't an exact duplicate of the match. My match listings for this set I think reflect the timeline of the match and feud better. Mad Dog Vachon/Verne Gagne v. This is available in full in other places so you'll see the whole thing at some point. Super Sunday 83 is where the match is from.
