Posted November 19, 201014 yr comment_5458432 I'm going to go ahead and nominate this even though I wasn't super high on it. Story was that Jericho was working speed v. Douglas cheating/experience. Douglas ends up focusing on the leg and they did some reasonably cool stuff worked around that premise. I didn't think Jericho's selling was very compelling and this is another match that felt too long to me, but I did like the finish and this is a textbook example of a match I could see others liking more than I do.
December 8, 201014 yr comment_5459984 Shane Douglas vs. Chris Jericho (7/28/96) - Jericho works the armbar early on and Douglas jaws with the fans. Good stuff especially when Douglas gets rammed into the ringpost putting more focus on the arm. When Douglas regains control, he focuses on the leg. More good stuff! Douglas works in a half crab and then a headbutt to Jericho’s quad. Badass! The biggest problem with the early work is that when Jericho goes back on offense, he forgets about the leg until a missed Lionsault. However, I can chalk that up to adrenaline blocking out the pain I guess. The ending was sort of out of nowhere but I enjoyed this enough to give it a solid nomination. One of the better matches I have seen today. EDIT: Dylan... these E-Dub matches are fucking with your perception of time when a 10-15 minute match is going too long. I don't know how you'll get through the All Japan set.
December 8, 201014 yr Author comment_5460004 I'll be fine on the AJPW Set, as I have been fine with SMW, but I will say that watching all this ECW makes you really appreciate a good short match. This match is a match I had figured you would like a lot which is the primary reason I nominated it. I thought it really dragged hence the "felt long" commentary. Interesting thing about watching the ECW and SMW back to back is that ECW is a fed with matches that often go too short to their detriment, whereas SMW was a fed where matches often went too long to their detriment.
January 24, 201114 yr comment_5462859 ECW World TV Title: "The Franchise" Shane Douglas © vs. "Lionheart" Chris Jericho (7/28/96) Jericho was so good at this time and you could tell that big things were on the way for him. Good limb work early in the match with Jericho working over Shane's left arm before going on an offensive barrage then Shane following up working over Jericho's left leg as he tried to suplex Francine. Shane was ruthless here working the leg before Jericho fights through the pain and makes a comeback doing a crappy job of selling the legwork though before grabbing Francine and kissing her then missing a lionsault where he remembered the legwork from earlier and started selling. Douglas used a figure-four but Jericho would eventually counter out with a cradle that Douglas cutback to retain his title. Good match and this moves forward.
