This is a Pirate match, which is basically a chain match with a flag on a pole. Goofy gimmick worked really well. They hit the mat hard at the beginning and both guys do cool matwork with the chain. Wrapping around a bicep during an armbar, using a chain across the mouth to reverse a headlock. They build up to a nasty brawl with both guys smacking each other with the chain and Taylor taking some cool bumps off the top as he tries to grab the flag. It may have gone a schoshe too long, but the babyface win was well worked and a cool moment. Really great camera work too, as you got to see Taylor's facial expressions and the nastiness of the blows.

This was incredible. Not only was this easily the best Dave Taylor match I've seen, it was probably the best chain/strap/bullrope gimmick match ever. In part, the Black Terry Jr-esque camera work is a bit part of why the match is so great, but they also use the chain in more inventive ways than I can remember seeing from any two workers. It's quite a lengthy match, which could have been it's downfall, but it never fails to be engrossing and for a match of this sort without any blood the selling really makes it compelling. The tugging on the chain to stop each other from claiming the flag is epic and it's just another great van Buyten gimmick match. It actually has a chance at being No.1 on my Euro ballot when we get to that stage, I found it so captivating.

Note: the date seems to be 10/5/86.
