Steve Corino v. Nova

Corino was pretty great in this, bitching after every exchange, bragging after hitting the most elementary of spots, working his teaser spots on the floor, including a cool one where he acted like he was going to toss Nova into the steel but redirected and tossed him into the ring. Then he danced a jig only to get baseball slid into the guardrail. Nova hits a rewind DDT off of the ropes on the floor that was really undersold, but this is ECW where something like that is regularly a transition move. Cool spot with Nova hitting a backfist of all things off of a reversal and then dragging Corino down by his hair as he celebrates another mild victory. They end up on the top where Corino hits a pretty nasty looking diving bulldog of all things. Nova ends up winning clean with his reverse DDT thing coming off the ropes. This was sort of an oddball match up, the selling was virtually non-existent in spots, and Nova's offense is always questionable, but overall it had a really charming and unique quality to it that a lot of "better" matches lack. I will nominate it on the low end.

Axl Rotten v. Danny Doring

I have really come to like Axl, but he looked fucked out of his mind here and was barely able to move at times. Doring's heel act could be entertaining in small doses, but here he was really hamming it up and not in a good way. This is as skippable as it gets.

FBI v. John Kronus/New Jack

Pretty funny as the match is supposed to be Smothers v. Kronus, but Smothers has Guido start off and then tags in which the ref protests to no avail. Smothers getting bumped to the floor and then just casually flipping off a fan amused me. Kronus keeps getting advantages, but Guido, Smothers and Sal keep firing off with cheapshots to keep him from winning. Tracy actually takes the fall after a cheapshot with the flag but New Jack hits the ring and destroys everyone. Smothers selling and bumping for Jack was ridiculous and made even more amusing by the fact that New Jack's initial run of shit - which was obviously called by Smothers - included a fucking armdrag of all things.

Justin Credible v. Chris Chetti

This probably should have been worse than it was, but it wasn't good. Lots of really loose looking shit, some extremely phony looking crap from Credible, a horrible corner punch sequences, et. I actually liked Chetti's moonsault which he managed to hit cleanly for once. And watching him almost kill Jason with a poorly executed powerbomb was amusing. But by and large this sucked.

Skull Von Krush v. Sabu

Sabu fucks up a bunch of shit in this including totally whiffing on his dive which actually made it look cooler in a bizarre way. I was somewhat surprised to see Krush kick out of the triple jump moonsault, but I guess at this point nothing was really a protected finisher anymore. Not good.

Spike Dudley v. Sal E. Graziano

Squash for Spike.

Balls Mahoney v. Rob Van Dam

Very much what you would expect. RVD had a couple of nice combinations, but most of this was stunt show stuff and I would have liked to have seen Balls get more of a real control segment.

Lance Storm v. Jerry Lynn

Back and fourth match at a quick pace. I didn't think they did anything of note and it almost felt like a "time killer" of a match.

Shane Douglas/Tommy Dreamer v. D-Von/Bubba Dudley

Tedious, boring, street fight.
