Posted December 1, 201014 yr comment_5458924 This was amazingly good for Chetti match, largely because Candido was really on his A game. Early on they establish Chetti as the dominant mat grappler and they do a cool spot with Candido hanging himself upside down in the ropes by his feet which was a staple spot of his that always worked pretty well. He ends up coming in and throwing some absolutely nasty looking jabs and then catching Chetti with a nice looking powerslam. The crowd chants boring so Candido throws him to the floor, but this doesn't devolve into a garbage affair. Some really cool hope spots and change ups in this one. For example Candido actually connects with his diving headbutt for a nearfall. He busts out a really looking enziguri and powerbomb to cut off Chetti comeback attempts. Chetti ends up hitting a nice superplex, followed by a moonsault attempt that Candido just avoids. The finishing move was a piledriver that Chetti desperately tried to fight off. You get the feeling that wasn't supposed to be the finish though as the ref counts to three, argues with Candido about Chetti supposedly getting his shoulder up when he clearly didn't, and then they ring the bell and award Candido the match anyhow. Aside from the somewhat awkward circumstances of the fall and a slight flub on an earlier piledriver escape from Chetti this was a really strong match. Probably the best Chetti match I've seen and a top two or three Candido in ECW match thus far.
December 9, 201014 yr comment_5460029 Chris Candido vs. Chris Chetti (6/27/97) - Candido is really great here, outsmarting Chetti and being a snake… kicking him in the nuts, back elbow on the rope break. Ugh, fuck this crowd… what is boring about this match? No chairs? No cheese graters? Dumb asses. Really disliked the roll up / backslide sequence that led to the Candido enziguiri. These guys were not on the same page there. I would also argue that the things aI Liked about Chetti in the Justin Credible match, he didn’t display those here but he does look really young so I guess itt can be forgiven. Still, not a bad match and I enjoyed it but with the awkward moments and the bad crowd, I can only give this a low level at best.
February 2, 201114 yr comment_5463832 "No Gimmicks Needed" Chris Candido vs. Chris Chetti (6/27/97) Helluva one-man show by Candido here but the crowd fucking sucked and Chetti wasn't much of anything in the ring either so while this was entertaining it isn't a nomination to me. Candido was great though.
