Looks to be similar to Texas Death Match rules. Not far at all behind Toyota/Kudo, and a pretty great brawl. The gap between the two matches is small enough that I could see someone preferring this match. Toyota/Kudo has way more heat and drama, but this one has more wrestling and the brawling is in the same ballpark.

I got to disagree with Loss and say this was awful. Felt like a bad ECW brawl with botched Irish whips and weak chain attacks. Looked real amateurish and like they weren't even tried it. Now it might have turned out better in the last 10 minutes but I wouldn't know since I turned it off.

Well I'm sure someone, somewhere prefers this to Kudo vs Toyoda. The gap is gigantic though. The three main problems with this were:

1) The action wasn't up to much. The moves were sloppy when they tried more advanced sequences. It was mainly fighting. But that wouldn't have been so important if not for:

2) It wasn't very hardcore. Restrained usage of props and girly blade jobs.

3) The biggest problem of all was the small vs small dynamic. It needed a big girl or kicker to work properly. The Oz vs Kansai brawls from 95 hit the mark.

The main pitfall of Texas Death Matches rears its head immediately, as Takako pins Ozaki in about 30 seconds, though she uses Ozaki's own Tequila Sunrise finisher just to be a bitch. She then attacks Ozaki with what appears to be a jumprope. They actually restrain from loading this up with a bunch of falls after the first one to establish the stips, so credit to them for that. I still didn't think much of this, though--the opening brawling is incredibly tepid and sloppy (and not sloppy in the chaotic brawl sense--I mean in the sloppy sense). And despite being a match between two of the biggest cunts in the history of women's wrestling this doesn't really feel very hateful or high-stakes--and yet another dead 1996 joshi crowd doesn't help, either. What HAPPENED, exactly?

Leaving aside Kudo/Toyoda, this doesn't hold a candle to the Ozaki/Kansai death matches.

Oz-Takako was one of the weirder inter-promotional era feuds. They feuded because "why wouldn't they?", I guess, so it's never a really compelling story. Also, yeah, a straight brawl between the two of them isn't exactly what will pay the bills. A submission match would have been better and made for good foreshadowing for Takako's career. Still enjoyed this, and it's definitely the best-dressed wild fight.

I was really weary of this in the beginning knowing how much time was left on the disc and that only a USWA match followed it. The opening was sloppy and lifeless feeling. Yet, when they started using the chain and brawling on the outside, this turned around in a big way and the finish down the end was dramatic and well down with the spinning back fist wrapped in the chain being a definitive ending. The wadrobe choices also gave this a cool vibe. I can't fathom someone prefering this match since it was methodical too at times like the Toyoto/Kudo match but this was a great match in its own right in my opinion. ****

This is a match that is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. I could see people who are not high on joshi hating this. Some of the selling and transitions are pretty awful at times. But the violence, drama and hate are all on point. You get cool character based touches and the neat story of Takako trying to match Ozaki in her ideal environment. A match where the flaws hold it back from being MOTYC level but the good is good enough for the whole thing to be considered great. ****

Dress Up Wildfight! Yeah, I'm on the negative side for this match. I just couldn't get into it at all. There was a point where Ozaki started tossing Inoue around the ringside tied to the whip, and then back in the ring they had some good exchanges, but I quickly got lost again and was just waiting for it to end. Aside from Toyota/Kudo, which was blow away great, Joshi sure isn't doing it for me this year.
